mrshomemaker:  I have donated several dresses, pairs of shoes, evening bags and some jewelry to The Cinderella Project. They supply prom dresses to needy girls.

Find a similar oganization where you live. Google “free prom dresses for low income families”.

I donated my wedding dress to Angel Gowns which cut the dress up and use it to make little gowns for still born babies to be buried in – just thought it was a really nice idea.

I donated my dress to Brides Against Breast Cancer- just ship the dress and a check (they ask for it if you can do it) for 100.00 to cover the cost of dry cleaning the dress.  Great charity and I’m so glad to have done it!

julies1949:  I too have donated all my old bridesmaid dresses to the Cinderella Project.  I think it’s a great cause.

The high school in the district I work in does a collection every year for needy students as well – I’ve donated 3 formal dresses but kept the ones with more sentimental value – I figure I can donate them any year I want, so no worries if I hang onto them now.

I just want to take this opportunity to plug The Brides’ Project:

They accept donations for wedding gowns which they then sell and all profits go to cancer charities. I went there to shop for a wedding dress. Didn’t find the dress I want, but the ladies there were very nice.

It’s up in Toronto, Canada though, but I figure maybe some Canadian bees will come into this thread and see this. 🙂
