I’m into art and architecture. I’m a modernist. I am a design snob.
And my DH’s friends have the most hideous things on their registry. I’ll refrain from description at the risk of offending someone, but I was so tempted to skip it altogether and hit up velocity or MOMAstore in protest. But I did pony up in the end and did the right thing. I just spent $100 on their precious uglies from the registry.
And oh god, it hurts, it hurts.

I wouldn’t call myself a design snob but I have bought some seriously hideous things to make friends and family happy.

Don’t worry, there will be people thinking the same about things on your registry!
Thank God we all have different taste. Think of what a boring world it would be if all our homes looked exactly the same.

Hahahaha I love art and architecture, but I hate modern art. On behalf of your friends thank you for not hitting up the MOMAstore. I would hate to get something from that place. 😛

I love art, and am an architect, and would also hate getting something from the MOMA store. I like going to the MOMA, but wouldn’t want to bring it home! Everyone has their own taste!

LOL! So true, so true, everyone does indeed have their own taste.
I think back to When Harry Met Sally: “I want you to know…That I will never want that wagon-wheel coffee table.”

Oh thank you thank you thank you for actually buying off their registry. lol From the description you gave, you and I would be 100% polar opposites in design tastes. And wouldn’t you hate to give a gift you knew someone would strongly dislike? That’s what I LOVE registries…atleast I know I’m always giving a gift you know they would like.
I do sympathize with you though. My sister wanted a set of dishes and I was just thinking they were the most hideous things ever…so hard to spend money on something you think is hideous. LOL
