Our wedding is EXACTLY 4 weeks from today ^_^
I think my family is slightly annoyed that I am avoiding the hot Chicago sun… but I am wearing strapless, so I don’t want tan lines, and my makeup artist did a trial already so I want to stay the same color 🙂
My nephew is having a pool party this weekend and I think a few people are miffed that I won’t be staying for very long and swimming.
Anyone else staying indoors?

I am also being aware of the sun. I went to vegas and was trying not to get any tan lines at all. I stopped wearing my watch this summer so I don’t have a watch tan. So you’re not crazy for staying away from the sun but maybe wear a large floppy hat and tube tops so you can stay at the pool party longer. You shouldn’t have to cut out family time for a wedding.

I bought a strapless swim suit top and have been wearing tube tops when I do yard work. otherwise I wear long sleeves and sunscreen. i don’t want weird tan lines either, but I am not going to miss out on fun things though because of it. i am sure your make up artist can adjust your shade if need be.

Yes – but it has nothing to do with the with the wedding. I just don’t like staying outside directly in the sun for long periods of time, even with sunscreen.
If you wear a hat like shoppingdixie suggested and a light weight long sleeve shirt, you should be covered enough to stay for the party – the sun isn’t a good excuse not to spend a long time at the party!

Yep, I had to up my inventory of strapless clothing. I don’t want to risk tan lines. We were at an all-day outdoor concert at the end of June, and it took a lot of SPF 50 sunscreen and dedication not to get tan lines. I kept reminding myself not to put my bag over my shoulder. And I get nervous sometimes that I’ll end up with seatbelt tan lines if I’m in the car for a long time.
As for the party, maybe you could buy some of that crazy high SPF suncreen so you don’t miss out on the fun? It would probably be worth it to not upset your family. I can see why that might hurt their feelings.

If you’re not, you should be! I got married in May, and exactly 1 week before my wedding, I came home from an outdoor event with the most. awkward. sunburn. ever. I couldn’t believe I was such an idiot. I went to a lot of trouble, and you couldn’t tell at all on the day of my wedding, but it was NOT something I needed that week! I was stressed out enough! Be careful, ladies!

I have always avoided the sun for health reasons. But even without health being an issue, since my gown is strapless, I would be extra careful about not getting tan lines. I’ve seen other brides who have tan lines and it really takes away from the whole look.

i hear you! i have a strapless dress so earlier this summer i bought 2 strapless swimsuits, but i’m afraid that the back of my dress will be too low and will show the back of the swimsuit (if that makes sense) so i’ve been carrying around spf 55!
btw ladies, i’m a huge fan of letting your natural skin color shine! i am naturally super pale, and bought a dress in a color that flattered my skin, no tanning for this girl!

One of my good friends got married several years ago, but her wedding was in June, and she spent the spring steadfastly out of the sun… and she was doing AMAZING!
Her rehearsal (for her outdoor wedding) was at 4pm the day before the wedding, and she wore overalls and a tank top… two hours later she had totally fried shoulders and thick white lines. They tried really hard to cover them for the wedding the next day, but no dice – you can still see it in all her pics.
Fortunately she’s pretty laid back. But don’t forget to slather on sunscreen even in the late afternoons – the sun can do surprising things!

I’m glad I’m not the only one 🙂 I’m pale naturally and I use Differin so I burn super easy. That and I have a strapless dress so I don’t want lines there either! FH laughs at me because I make him park super close to stores and sometimes when we’ve been walking around outside lately I use an umbrella. Doesn’t matter how much sunscreen I use, I somehow always manage to get lines. One more week of hiding!

As someone who got a nice round sunburn on her chest at her REHEARSAL, I’d definitely recommend staying out of the sun! The makeup artist managed to hide it with some bronzer and it faded enough by the time the ceremony came, but still it was a bit of added stress I really didn’t need the night before my wedding!!

I have been staying out of the sun and using a self tanner lotion (Jergens) because of tan lines from Memorial day weekend!! I had tan lines from that weekend then bought a strapless swimsuit and thought they would go away- well they didnt totally go away so the lotion has fixed that issue!! I reminded all my girls to wear sunscreen at the rehearsal (their dresses are strapless) so no one gets burned! I will be doing the same and might even try to carry a parasol for extra shade (Im really pale!)
