I easily get overwhelmed when I think of everything that needs to be done. What I’ve been doing is writing down a few things at a time that I need to take care of on a post-it note and just focus on those few things at a time. When I complete a task, I get the satisfaction of crossing it off my list, and when the list is done, I make a new post-it note. Divide and conquer! May not work for everyone, but it’s been pretty effective for me, for keeping my stress level to a minimum.

I should also add that there have been times where I’ve just taken a few weeks off from planning, and that’s ok. When you’re far enough out from your date, it’s fine to step away from it all for a while. I always found the motivation sooner or later to dive back in.

Dang girl, it sounds like you need a break! I went through the same thing where I would go into planning overdrive and then all of a sudden feel completely overwhelmed. You have your major vendors figured out. Just take a couple weeks off and remember what it’s like to just be you, versus engaged you.

One thing that helped me was I used one of those suggested timelines from the knot. I wrote in the months of when things were due. If I was ahead of schedule, I stopped planning until the next month. =)

@vicozzie: Is May 2012 your actual wedding date? If it is, you do still have time to focus on one or two tasks a week.

Not sure if it makes you feel any better or not, but I felt completely overwhelmed when I first joined the Bee. Seeing how much people post, the things they’re worried about (not that it’s a bad thing), and all the dilemmas that go on…it honestly made me hyperventilate for awhile haha. But eventually I learned not to look at all the posts, choose which ones I thought would help me, and how to stay true to myself and my Fiance in our wedding planning.

Also, point number two, it really does get better once the big decisions are made. I felt SO overwhelmed even six months ago (we’re three months away from the wedding). Now it’s not so bad. Plus when it gets closer you start to actually get more excited about the wedding day and being DONE with wedding planning, hehe. I’ve learned not to care so much about every little detail and just to accept wedding planning for what it is. In the beginning you think it’s going to be so much fun…you see the amazing inspiration photos, you hear the awesome ideas. It’s about realizing wedding planning does sorta stink sometimes, working with what you have, and learning to be decisive.

I tend to be wordy, but long story short – YOU’RE NOT ALONE, and it WILL GET BETTER. The good part? Good days always follow the bad days!

You’ll be fine!  We all get stressed out ๐Ÿ™‚  When it all got to be too much I would just take a break for a few weeks.

I know how you feel! I have phases where I get very unmotivated, stressed out and emotional over it…then there are days where i’m all gun ho about planning…you have quite awhile…what you can do is make a schedule…and set dates of when you want to book certain vendors by or certain things based on whats the most important to you.. this will also help with your budgeting so that you dont overspend and then have to cut out something you really wanted..

I highly recommend planning your honeymoon sooner…that way you save enough money for an amazing honeymoon…seriously, you want to enjoy yourself…everytime you feel stressed, you will have an awesome honeymoon to look forward to!  You and FI’s happiness is whats most important! Tongue out

-Reserve Catering
-Reserve Photographer
-Reserve Bakery for Cake
-Buy a dress
-Have Fiance try on tuxes to see what styles he likes

We also need to get engagement photos taken so I can send out STD postcards… ugh!!!!
