Where I live, it is very impossible to find a decent reception hall. The place I have looked at it really really old school. Paneling walls, tacky bar, it smells like an attic. I have no clue how to make it work. Or I should just find somewhere else. I see all these beautiful venues on this site, and I can only wish. So who else is facing this problem? I am too embarassed to show pics 😡

Find somewhere else- there is somewhere. My sister went with one of those reception halls and it was terrible. The air conditioning broke and it smelled like an attic. It was horrible.

I am doing everything at a local Resturaunt because we got such a great deal on it. We are paying about 2,000 to rent out the resuraunt and the catering. (My mom knows the owner) Any hoo… The place has some nice charm like a fireplace and a cabin like feel, BUT There are giant stuffed bears everywhere and when we went to meet with the owner about everything I noticed an elk skull and antlers that I never noticed before. And I can’t take down their decorations I don’t like… I have to decorate around them. I am Trying to bring attention to the fireplace so everyone sees the charm. lol. But you could always to scnted candles to help with the smell and just try to play up any charm that the place may have. If they don’t allow decorating I’d suggest moving on. Good luck on your venue!

I think you should show us a picture and maybe bees can help with more suggestions. Also, it normally isn’t as bad as you think 🙂

No it really really is bad. :/
BUT! I have found another place (If the woman would ever call be back) that has brown walls with white trim. Problem now is…my colors were going to be black, silver, red, and splash of orange. NOW how can I make this work?

You can DEFINITELY make those colors work in that second venue! Ohh you can get so creative, I’m not sure how your budget is with the new place but table linens can be changed to silver/black/etc, the streamers hanging from the ceiling could be a combination of colors. chair covers with orange ribbons? But personally I like the look of those chairs already

@chaeinlove: I love those chairs as well! Fiance and I are going to take a look around the place tomorrow. We may actually switch our date from late Nov. to the middle of October to take advantage of the beautiful fall atmosphere.
