I am not pregnant (yet) but I worry about this happening because my skin has gotten much worse since going off the pill. I have found that using SLS-free products (toothpaste, shampoo, face wash, etc.) helps my chin and jaw acne immensley. SLS, as in soldium lauryl sulfate. I read something about it being a cause of acne once – no idea if there is any scientific validity to it or not!

I had some pretty bad break outs and flaky dry skin, which is abnormal for my face, in the first trimester of my pregnancy (my little one is a girl too!) but I’m more than halfway through the second trimester and it’s not as bad. I started using a natural soap which helped and shea butter for moisturizer on my face so I think that’s been super helpful!

MrsRevolutionize:  Salicylic acid made my face 100% worse! Granted, I’m not pregnant, but my skin had never looked worse when I used that. I used Cetaphil wash + acne.org benzoyl peroxide cream for a while and it was the ONLY thing that cleared up my skin. I used it for about 2 years but I think my skin got used to it because my breakouts returned, so I’m currently switching up products and diet (I think diet is a HUGE contributer to my breakouts).

No advise but my skin was HORRIBLE my whole first trimester. I’d usually get hormonal acne around my period, so I basically had that for three months. I’ve always found the best thing is to minimize what I use on my face. Light stuff like Cetaphil usually does the trick more for me than harsh stuff.ย

Luckily it clearned up entirely during my second trimester and has been pretty good in my third (I’m 36w).ย

MrsRevolutionize:  I was told that cleaners with salicylic acid don’t work because you wash them off before they can penetrate the skin and do anything. Try looking for a BHA liquid that you leave on the skin. Also, I dunno if you can take it while pregant, but Retin-A works really well for Acne and it has the added benefit of being anti-aging too!

I don’t really have much advice to offer… but I wanted to commiserate with you, it sucks ๐Ÿ™ FX that it starts to clear as you get further along in your pregnancy!

MrsRevolutionize:  While my acne wasnt pregnancy related, I found that the SECOND i ditch OTC acne stuff ( anything with salicylic acid ect) and started using an ayurvedic soap my skin became nearly flawless for the first time ever I sometimes use a vitamic c oil to help with wrinkles and an organic moisturizer

I dont use anything on my face that has chemicals and that seems to keep it pretty clear. I use my $1 ayurvedic soap or water to wash my face

Chemicals can dry out your face which will make it produce more oil which can clog your pores. Maybe try breaking the cycle and seeing what happens!

MrsRevolutionize:  I would definitely give the Cetaphil + Benzoyl Peroxide cream from Acne.org a try! They’re relatively cheap so that’s good! ๐Ÿ™‚

Mine was terrible too. I was gettingi it in places I’ve never had acne before, like my neck and jaw.  My back also was breaking out.  It was worst during the second tri, but I’m 30 weeks now and it appears to be clearing up.  I spot treated with salicyic acid because I was desperate.  Hope it clears up soon for you!
