Well, I was happy because I thought I was in the clear, having taken my 1 hr glucose test last Monday ang not getting a call all week (they told me no news was good news, and if you fail they’d call within a day or two). Now, I received a call a whole week later telling me my number are too high. They didn’t tell me what my number actually was, so I don’t know how far off I am. Anyone else fail the 1 hr and pass the 3 hr? For what it’s worth–I wasn’t planning on taking the test the day I took it, but was told when I got there that I could get it over with if I wanted…I didn’t fast, and had eaten lunch about an hour before the test. ETA–I also worked out within two hours of taking the test.
I have none of the major risk factors–I had healthy starting weight, have gained right at the target weight throughout my whole pregnancy, and have absolutely no symptoms. The only risk factor I have is that my mom had GD, but always chalked that up to the fact that she told me she kind of went crazy on sugar during her pregnancy.

Just wanted to reply that I automatically had to take a 2 hr test because of my BMI. During that time, I passed my fasting level, failed at one hour by 0.5, and passed at 2 hours. I was diagnosed with GD. Other than my high BMI, I have not gained at all and am 32 weeks. IF you do have GD, it’s not that bad. I am controlling with diet so far and my sugars have been fine. Hope you get good results but even if you don’t, you’ll be ok. It’s only for a short time. 🙂

I failed the 1 hour with my first child, passed the 3 hour with no problem. With my second child, I passed the 1 hour test.

Most ladies that I’ve known as well as what I’ve read online have failed the 1 hr test, but passed the 3 hr one. Even if the number is just 1 over the acceptable range, they fail you. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Good luck, Bee! 🙂

I failed the 1 hour tests and I was SOOO upset. However, I researched the tests and it seems like the 1 hour tests isn’t very accurate… it just saves some people the annoyance of having to do the 3 hour one. I took the 3 hour one and easily passed (wasn’t even close to outside margins of the passing range). I definitely worried myself out way too much about it. Just follow your doctors instructions about the test as close as possible and you’ll probably be fine. It is just an annoying test because you have to fast, and be stuck in the office for 3 hours and take 4 blood tests- but it is the best way to know if you have GD. If you do get it, it can usually be easily maintained with diet- it is just important to know.

lula0508 : I failed the 1 hour test and passed the 3 hour test just fine. It wasn’t that bad. Take someone with you if you can. That helped me.

Me. I failed the one hour and easily passed the three hour test. I brought my laptop with me and did some work in the waiting area to make it go faster.

Glad to hear it’s pretty common to pass the 3 hour after failing the one hour. I’m just kicking myself for not waiting until my next appointment so I wouldn’t have eaten and exercised right before. They told me just to not eat anything after midnight for the 3 hour test…is there anything else you’re supposed to do? My doctor’s office isn’t great at giving me instructions–for example they didn’t tell me I needed a full bladder for my ultrasound.

I failed the one hour test (just barely) and went on to fail the 3 hour test as well… my Dr. was really surprised (he thought I would pass) I was a healthy weight prior to pregnancy, was active, and gained exactly the amount of you’re supposed to… but GD sometimes just happens. I remember being super bummed out, but it was easy to control with diet and it was a good incentive to eat healthy foods during 3rd trimester. I also remember that I was super worried that I would be giving birth to a giant baby, but when I had my daughter 3 days after her due day she was only 6lbs 14 oz.
I hope that you pass the 3 hour! But if you don’t, don’t feel bad, it’ll totally be okay!

Taking the 3 hour today! Ugh the drink was way worse this time…and I’m not looking forward to all the blood draws, but at least I’ll have it over with. I asked about my # when I got in this morning, and it was 146…so only 6 over the cut off, but a fails a fail 🙁 just trying not to think about food for the next 3 hours.

I failed both but remember that GD happens when the placenta doesn’t work properly, not because you didn’t eat well. It’s nothing you did.

lula0508 : I failed my one hour and “didn’t pass” my first three hour and had to retake. Then I passed the second three hour with flying colors.
