How long is your engagement?  Ours was 11 months and it dragged on – I wasn’t all that into details etc.. – I just wanted to marry him!  But then sometimes I really enjoyed it because in the bigger scheme of things it’s only going to  be a blip on the radar – after being together 4 years and hopefully after many years of marriage our engagement will be a pretty special time to look back on.  But I’m not gonna lie – I was so glad once the wedding festivities started – that was the whole point!

@JenniCobalt: My Fiance just left for Iraq yesterday.  He proposed 5 days before he had to leave for training.  I wish he were here to plan and celebrate our engagment with me.  It is no fun to be engaged and not share it with the man that you are in love with and plan to marry.  Enjoy it girl!! It wont last for long.  Besides, isn’t it fun to call him your fiancee instead of just “my boyfriend” now??

15 months IS a long time.  We’re going to be engaged 7 and a half months total and THAT feels like forever! I totally get what you mean by purgatory.  I wish so often we had just eloped because I just want to be married to him already!  Plus, we just started looking into buying a house and I’m now SERIOUSLY regretting all the money we’re putting into this wedding.  Ah well, too late to turn back now!  Wedding it is!

Our is 16 months and I have no issue with it. I absolutely LOVE being engaged. I, of course, can’t wait for our wedding but no, I don’t feel that this is like purgatory.

I enjoyed being engaged – it was a stage in our relationship, and that was really important to me.

Did I love wedding planning though? Heck no! It was stressful, there were so many decisions that I had to make even though I didn’t care one way or the other (my poor venue manager the day she asked what shade of blue I wanted for the linens. I told her it didn’t matter and I thought she was going to fall over, haha), finding ways to either compensate for or work around everyone’s expectations (my own, my FI’s, both our mothers’, grandma’s, etc.), and so on. It’s not all rainbows and pixie dust, unfortunately, but keeping a good attitude will definitely help!

i loved being engaged but hated having to plan a wedding so we eloped and had a big catered family party a few months after we married – avoided all the family “have to’s and what if’s” demands and wouldnt change a thing 🙂

Our engagement will have lasted for almost exactly 18 months. It’s gone by really quick and I feel like it’s the perfect amount of time for us. Originally we were going to wait to marry until 11/11/11 but due to family health issues bumped it up.

I love being engaged! Of course, I haven’t even been engaged for a whole week, but I love it. I feel like it’s just another step in your relationship. I feel like everyone around you is just so happy and perhaps take your relationship a tad bit more serious.

My engagement is GOING to be ~17 months. We’re only one month in, but I guess since I haven’t actually done ANYTHING, no it doesn’t feel like purgatory. I did feel like a “bad bride” when I got questions from family that I haven’t even thought of today….Whoops.

I’m excited to get to plan but right now, I’m just “idea-shopping” so I don’t plan it and then sit and get bored for the last, oh, 10 months. I am just having fun showing off my ring and calling him my Fiance for holidays! 🙂
