Me too, Friday the 13th!  I’ve actually been told by some family and friends they think it’s a great idea. To be able to incorporate a small theme is fun too.  ๐Ÿ™‚

@MrsChainsaw-to-be: I wanted halloween, too, but Fiance wanted warm weather so he picked our date!  People are always making luck comments, but I like that my wedding is unique.

YES! we’re getting married on Friday 13th too!! Our first date was Friday July 13th 2007, and we had always joked that it was our lucky day and made sure to celebrate every Friday 13th. In fact, he proposed on a Friday 13th! We wanted to have our wedding late summer next year but when we found out that July 13th 2012, our 5 year anniversary of being together, was on a Friday, we just had to do it!!

As for the lucky/unlucky part, I found out from a family friend that the number 13 is lucky in chinese culture (she assured me this because her birthday is July 13). In mandarin, the number sounds like “definitely vibrant” or “assured growth”. Good signs, I think.

I did a little goggle/wikipedia research and also found out that in both mandarin and cantonese, “1314” sounds like “one life, one death”,  and is often used romantically, akin to “for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part” in English. My wedding (as I am sure yours is as well) is technically on the 13th and 14th, so that sounded perfect to me!
