I still have a little less than 10 months to go, but I’m freaking out about my name change already! my last name now is only 4 letters, 2 of which are the same. I’m going from a VERY common first name and easier than anything last name to a 12 letter long Macadonian name. No one in my family can say it and I already feel bad for my future children and my students. I may just have them call me Mrs. G, my fiance is Coach G. and Mr. G because NO ONE can say his name so I know just where you’re coming from!!

I’m on my phone, so I can’t find it, but awhile back the blogging bees who are married talked about the name change process, and one of the ladies said she gave herself a few months of being married to figure it all out. I think I’m going to take that approach. Just ease into it slowly and do what feels right for you.

I am also going to be switching do a difficult polish last name that I am going to have to spell every time.  Plus it starts with a Z…so I will be at the end of every alphabetical list and there is also nothing for monograms etc. with Z’s.

Plus, being a teacher, I hear my last name a lot and identify a lot with it.  It will be very very weird to switch.  I’m still excited about it and want to do it, but I know it will be difficult.

It didn’t bother me at all.  It took me a bit to get used to it once I changed it. Such as when I had to tell someone my name on the phone, I always had to think a minute before I could say the correct name!

I was. BELIEVE me I was. But now that it is said and done, it feels good and right. Plus, Shef is better than Fricke if you ask me. A lot less confusion.

I don’t want to take his name (because it totally doesn’t go with my first name) but I’m going to.  Plus his last name is a first name, so everytime they ask for last name he gives it and then people are like “no I said last name first” and then he’s like “that is my last name”.  It gets pretty annoying, and it’s not even my name yet

@redhead46: Same here. Actually, I guess I have the opposite problem, my first name and his last go too well together, they rhyme and I really don’t like it but I’m changing it anyway.

I’m going from a very very common last name to a persian name.  My mom and dad still ask me how to pronounce it after 7 years!  Haha.  There will be some getting used to that’s for sure!
