Recently, I’ve started getting calls from people asking for a “Josephine.” I just say, “Sorry, you have the wrong number,” and that’s that.
This morning I got another one of those calls so I said sorry, wrong number. The woman on the other end started interrogating me! I thought about simply hanging up on her, but I wanted to make it clear to her that this is not Josephine’s number so she will stop bothering me.
She kept saying, “But nobody ever told us that Josephine changed her number.” I told her I don’t see how that’s my problem, because I don’t know this Josephine, all I know is that this is most certainly not her number so please stop calling it. She asked me how long I had this number, so I told her almost two years.
She then said in a very suspicious tone, “Well, that’s very convenient, it shows here that we spoke to Josephine at this number in January! Are you sure you don’t know who Josephine is?” I repeated that yes, I am certain that I don’t know who Josephine is, and even if I did know a Josephine, this is MY personal cell phone number. I told her that she must have dialed the number wrong, because there’s no way they talked to Josephine on my phone in January… and the cow hung up on me!!
I hope she doesn’t call again, because this woman seemed to be short a few marbles. Has anyone else ever had annoying wrong number callers? How did you get them to stop? Did you block their number?

I am getting collection calls daily for someone else. I used to tell them that they had the wrong number and they stopped for a while but they started back up again recently. It’s this stupid recording so I’m not going to waste my time calling them back just to tell them that I’m not the person they are looking for.

I’ve been getting a bunch of calls for “Matt” and when I asked what it was in regard to, since I’m clearly not a Matt, they said that it was for college information, that “Matt” had entered my phone number into an online form requesting more information. I asked them to take my number off their list, but I’ve gotten more than a dozen calls in the last two weeks, all from different numbers for the same thing!

I had a friend who had someone sign up their cell phone number for a sketchy online unaccredited college. A whole bunch of those places kept calling her for awhile.
I haven’t had anything that annoying, but I have an east coast area code and live on the west coast, so I do get wrong numbers early in the morning. ugh.

Don’t get into any sort of discussion with them. Just tell them once that “this is not Josephine’s number, please do not call again. I have to go now, goodbye.”
If the call is from a skip tracer(someone chasing down an outstanding debt) they can be very persistent.

Crap… I just googled that number to see if I could find out who was calling. I had a feelings it was a collections agency, and indeed it is CIBC collections! Some deadbeat must have given the bank my phone number, which explains why the woman calling was so rude and suspicious of my claims that I don’t know who Josephine is.
I just called my cell phone carrier and there’s no option to block a single phone number from cell phones.

I used to get collection calls for someone named McKenzie. (I have a recycled number.) It was a recording and was using all my minutes, so I called the number back. They asked if I was McKenzie, I said no, this is not McKenzie’s phone number, so if you have her listed please delete it. They were very polite and said they’d take me off the list. Didn’t get another call.
If they start interrogating you, it’s likely that Josephine has an outstanding debt they are trying to collect. Next time they call, ask them what company they work for and what their name is. Ask them if they are a debt collection agency and if they are who they are collecting the debt for and what the contact information for THAT company is. Inform them that they have the incorrect contact info for Josephine and to please take the phone number off their list. If they argue or keep trying to interrogate you, ask to speak to their supervisor. (Sometimes they’ll claim they ARE the supervisor or that the sup isn’t available. In that case, tell them to have their supervisor call you when they are available, then hang up.) If you talk to the sup, explain that you were talking to [name] and have already explained that obviously Josephine didn’t have enough money to keep her phone number and please take your number off their list. If they gave you the contact info for the company collecting the debt, call THAT company and correct their records as well.
I’ve had to go through several iterations of debt collectors for McKenzie. Now they have ALL stopped calling. (Her friends still text me BS texts like “iz dis mckenzie?” I hate it. It wastes .3 minutes every time!)

Ohh boy..did we ever get calls from wrong numbers. My bf had tons of calls (like 10+ per day) from different telemarketers. He found out who they were calling for and figured out what had happened. This person had entered some number(my bf’s number) and the rest of his own information in a pop up window. Anyways, this lasted for atleast 6 months and we had to argue with everyone to get the number off of the list.
Several years ago, I had a number keep calling me and I didn’t know who it was so I sent a text saying “who are you?” Anyways, I get a call from some girl asking why I was texting her bf and asking me who I was. She thought I had been seeing her boyfriend lol. At the time, i had already moved like 12 hours away from the area code of the phone number I had. Crazy lady!
Anyways, telemarketers are the worst :-/

What really pisses me off is when they realize they must have the wrong number or you tell them they do…and they just HANG UP on you. At least say “I’m sorry I must have the wrong number” or “OK thanks”. I always want to call them back and hang up on them. Childish I know. I’m feeling fiesty today.

I know, what am I supposed to do? I texted back once “No, this isn’t McKenzie’s number anymore” and they texted back “Hahaha. Funny McK.” Kids are stupid.
I also had someone calling my Vonage at 2am when MB was first born. The first night, I figured, ok, wrong number. The second night, I was pissed off! I blocked anonymous callers. They called the third night, and had to use their real number. I called them back every five minutes the next night between midnight and 4am EST. Which for me was between 8pm and midnight.
I never got a call from that A-hole again.

YES! We only recently got a home phone with a new cable bundle, and have been getting all kinds of calls since. Almost immediately we started getting debt collectors calling for the guy who used to live here. Someone from a nearby medical center called at ONE A.M and said “wrong number” and hung up as soon as I answered. But what’s worse than phone calls is the POLICE showing up at your door (twice!) as early as 8a on a Saturday morning when you are still in bed! Again, looking for the guy that used to live here. I swear he is wanted for identity theft or something b/c we also used to get mail for like 6 different names when we first moved in.

OMG, I’ve had to change phone numbers due to getting constant collections calls for whomever had my number before.
They absolutely will not accept that they have the wrong *&^%$# number.

You know what pisses me off even more? Texts from some loan company telling me that I qaulify a loan.
I do NOT want a loan, have not applied for a loan in god knows how long. The one loan I had has been paid for for YEARS, and I have zero interest in acquiring a loan, and I do not know why you have to freaking text me that I qualify for one!
Why is this even allowed?!!?
