i have pmdd. it can be extremely terrible. it almost ruined my relationship and really makes me feel horrible about myself. i DO take st. johns wort which is a natural mood enhancer and it helps. but since i’ve gotten back on birth control, it’s sort of leveled out everything which is kind of weird and new for me. but i do still react VERY badly a week or two before my period is due.

sorry you’re going through this but i can relate. xo

I used to have wild mood swings before and during my period. I was put on birth control before I was even sexually active to help regulate it. Since I’ve been on the birth control I’ve been a lot better I still get a little bitchy and have a fairly regular meltdown for 30 mins on the second night of my period, but my family and Fiance have noticed a huge difference.

My mood swings are out of control the week or two before I get my period. It’s been interesting to see how my Fiance deals with this. We are off BC to TTC which doesn’t help. We got in a huge fight over meatloaf leftovers one night and I couldn’t stop myself from flipping the F out. I hate it.

I have pmdd and it’s awful. Sounds very similar. The only thing that helps for me is bc pill but even that doesn’t stop it completely. Im worried about when i start ttc because all of it will come back. Try different types til you find one that works for you. I am not on the regular bc because it didn’t help me and it took a while to find one that did.

Sorry you’re feeling this way, but it isn’t yourfault. Maybe just give your so a heads up so he knows you don’t mean to get angry and it’s not at him.

Yes, take St. John’s Wort! I’ve been taking it for a little over a month (research says it takes this long to work) for my seriously severe PMS (mood swings, emotional, weepy, the whole thing) and it’s totally helped. i take the recommended dosage of 900 mg, but I take the 300 mg tablets 3 times a day to maximize body absorption. You can get it at Target or GNC. GNC is a little more expensive, but it doesn’t have alot of extra fillers, which is great.

–Edited– Edited to say that I take it everyday, not just during my period.

Yes and then I was determined to be estrogen dominant.  My estrogen would rise for ovulation and never return to normal so my set point kept rising.  I was on bio-identical progesterone for about a year and everything is back to normal.

I suffer from this as well…working out helps level my mood out. Even if just a 20min walk around the block with my dog. Once I do something active it seems to level me out. I still have my moments but not as bad when I work out.

I will have to look into St. John’s Wort too

@tmsing:  as i mentioned previously, as someone who has PMDD, i can say that st. john’s wort has made a difference in my mood. do make sure to take it everyday. i know that it can be horrible. hang in there. one thing i will say is, sometimes i have to really talk myself out of feeling so down. i know that sounds easier than it is. but sometimes, i really have to kick myself in the ass and make an effort to improve my mood. even if i really just want to scream and cry, i will force a smile on my face and make an effort to make myself feel better. sometimes it works!
