Hi Bees…Iam getting married in Victoria in July 2013. Have started the vendor search. Currently trying to find an affordable place that is simple yet elegent and can accomodate under 80 people. Would like it to have an all in one thing ceremony, photos and reception. Any cool ideas out there???

@magnoliaflower: Hello! I’m from Victoria as well! Getting hitched in Aug 2013. It all depends on what your idea of affordable is. I had a really hard time finding an “all-in-one” sort of place that wasn’t an arm and a leg, so i split my ceremony (Rosedale gardens) and reception (Gorge Vale Golf Course). However! I just attended a wedding at the Horticultural center (formerly Glendale gardens) that was lovely! It was 79 ppl, and they did both the ceremony and reception there. I looked up the rates and it was $1500 for both, or $1000 if you do just one. Sleeping Dog farm was also somewhat affordable, but they’re a day time venu only. I’ve got oodles and oodles of emails saved with quotes, so if you have any more specfic questions, feel free to PM me!

Hello Victoria bees! I am being a keen bridesmaid and looking for photographers in Victoria for my friend. They’re for her engagement photos. What photographers have you decided on or booked?

Couple of comments on the thread…
We just got married last month in Victoria, YAY! Beautiful day, amazing ceremony…
Definitely recommend Courtney Clarke photography — she did our engagement session as part of our wedding package. Totally worth EVERY PENNY. All feedback from family, friends has been fantastic. She is professional and personable. Photos speak for themselves, she’s an amazing talent.
If you are looking for flowers in vic, Kenmar Flower Farm, most affordable by far, with amazing quality.
Looking for a dress? I had an amazing experience at “the Bride’s Closet” in Nanaimo. They just kept yanking dresses until I found what I wanted, and I’m a curvy girl who is pretty picky about the look.
I definitely DO NOT recommend Church & State Winery… unfortunately it was all downhill once the deposit was made. The venue is stunning and we had almost 100 guests and wanted an elegant backyard style wedding. The venue luckily is stunning on its own because customer service has been non existent. Issues like changing details of the contract, requiring you to pre-purchase the cocktails (not per consumption), spelling my name wrong after 4 months of communication, never updating the agreement properly after corresponding about details… day before the wedding the coordinator didn’t show up to meet with me even though we had confirmed that morning, they said they would throwout my decor by 11am (of course not telling me until 10:30pm at the wedding) if anything was left, they started cleaning up the wedding (taking away table clothes, dumping water from the vases, etc) at 10pm even though we were booked until Midnight and I was still there. Then after all that all is said and done I get an email that I owe them more money because they made a mistake in their math on the contract. Church & State is not cheap and not worth it.
Hope that helps some of you ladies, I know my experience has cast a bit of a shadow on my day. I hope it will clear up, but I would hate for that to happen to someone else.

@ashn: OH NO! I was totally convinced that Church and State was going to be my location but after meeting with a vendor who told me bad things i have gotten nervous and now to see this!
Do you know who the Event Co-Ordinator was from the winery? I think they have had a turnover with her and so i am hoping it will be different. BUT considering you only got married a few months ago i am nervous! If you dont want to say the name… just the first initial maybe?
Appreciate your help 🙁

I got married on 12, 12, 12 at Craigdarroch Castle! It was nice! My reception was at The Bengal Lounge and the after party was also at The Empress! I had a Victorian wedding theme! My flowers were from Sea of Bloom in Sooke and my dress was from Luz Bridal! Congrats to all!
