Not really a fan of family holidays, they make me uncomfortable and anxious. My family isn’t as bad as we’ve all gotten older, but the in-laws is a whole different story. Whole super awkward vibe there, I get very anxious and uncomfortable. Fiance feels the same though so we don’t have to stay too long fortunately. Don’t really want to get into it but just wondering if anyone else feels the same way? I actually can’t wait until we move across country and can have our own holidays without all the pressure and crap. It just seems like so many people have these big happy families and are so excited to get together but it just not like that for us.

Me! I had a tough time with Xmas. I have a really strained relationship with my mom and some drama happened earlier in the month and I just couldn’t handle the stress. Decided not to even visit my family this year since my mental health is more important. Relieved it’s all over now nonetheless.

I’m usually quite indifferent, however oddly just yesterday I felt myself missing the holidays. Although, perhaps not the holidays specifically, rather the holiday spirit that’s in the air. Nowadays everyone starts complaining about how cold it is and they can’t wait for summer to come (and then they’ll be complaining how hot it is). I’m a winter gal, so seeing everyone getting out of the winter spirit and pining for oven heat already is disappointing.

I love some aspects of the holidays, like getting our Christmas tree, holiday baking and decorating, Christmas carols, etc. I am very close with FH’s family and love seeing them. However, I have a very strained relationship with my parents (long-lasting abuse/trauma during childhood), so that is always a stress for me. I’m also an introvert, so I find it draining in general to be around people constantly. Looking forward to some quiet time now!
