I do not like going out to bars and nightclubs because I do not drink (neither does SO.) Very rarely do we go out to a bar if we get invited. It is fun to socialize every once in a while but I could never do it every weekend like many people I know. When we do go out, we leave early because we don’t like the whole bar scene. I too sometimes feel like an old lady (at 23) but I don’t need to drink and stay out late in order to enjoy myself. I work in a hopsital as a nurses aide and go to nursing school at the same time so I am pretty busy now as it is. I only see SO on the weekends and even then I spend a lot of time studying. My social life is pretty much non-existent; although it never bothered me. I don’t have patience for people who get loud, drunk and annoying… i’d rather go to the movies, dinner, bowling, an arcade, or someones house for a get-together- bars/clubs just aren’t my thing!

I have never really been to a nightclub..it sounds awful to me.  I hate dressing up just to have fun.  I love going to bars, though, but when I say bar I mean…like a smallish place that has craft beer on tap, maybe sports on the tv, music to play, but not full of assholes.  You have to find places you like to go, and not try to go to the trendy places.  And never go anywhere where all the guys are ASSHOLES and the women think they can push you aside because you’re not wearing a slutty outfit.  I almost punched someone the other day in Philly, and I am NOT an angry person.

We are the stay at home kind of people. We don’t drink, or smoke pot [ALL of our friends do]. I guess we’re loners, but that’s okay, because while our friends are out blowing their paychecks at the bar, we’re cuddling on the couch knowing our hard earned money is sitting fat in the bank.

@bretonvirgniia:  What the fuck!!!  I hate that person for you.

Don’t go to places like that!  Are you in Toronto?  Do you have Yelp there?  There has to be a great place to go that isn’t for asssssholes.

@jenilynevette:  Hahahhah “We are the stay at home kind of people. We don’t think, or smoke pot [ALL of our friends do].”  Not thinkers, eh?  =)

@bretonvirgniia: Assholiness is a prerequisite for nightclubs.

A lot of times I don’t feel like going out because I’m tired or whatnot, but if I decide to just go anyway then I always have an awesome time! I love my friends and we have a great time just socializing, chatting, having some drinks, dancing sometimes! The hardest part is convincing myself to go out, but I never regret it!

@bretonvirgniia:  I’m older than you (28), but I’d say I’ve always been pretty 50/50 on bars/nightclubs.  Sometimes I’m incredibly excited to spend a night out on the town with my friends (my fiance sometimes comes along as well if we’re not making it a “girls night”) … And sometimes I’m like, “Nope!  I’m going to hang out in sweatpants and watch TV/watch movies/read/waste time on the Bee/etc.”

rarely feel like going out on a Friday night.  I work in a very high stress environment (my department is often noted as being the busiest in the company), so I usually like to spend my Friday nights relaxing.  Occasionally I’ll meet up with a friend to work out, but that’s obviously not an out all night kind of activity.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve noticed that I get tired earlier and earlier.  I know I’m not old, but I definitely can’t stay out all night like I used to.  Once in a while I can do it, but most of the time I’m ready to get home by at least midnight or 1:00 a.m.  I’m more inclined to stay out late if I’m going to a concert because I love seeing bands live.

I definitely think you can maintain friendships and stay social without going out to bars and nightclubs, though.  For example, two of my close girlfriends came over last Saturday night.  I made a couple of dips and bought some wine.  They brought over dessert, pasta salad, and more alcohol for mixed drinks.  We had fun just hanging out at my place talking, laughing, and listening to music (and obviously stuffing ourselves with food and alcohol).  If you’re not a big drinker, that’s not a big deal to most people.  Some of my friends don’t drink a lot, and we’ll usually go out for coffee and/or dinner or hang out and talk, watch a movie, play games, etc.  I always have a great time with my friends no matter what we’re doing … And more often than not, we’re not going out to bars and nightclubs.
