OMG. I only worked a couple hours today and when I got off, I was going to do some work on our new house we are renting. When I got to the house, I walked up to the door and there was a HUGE snake under the door. I mean 4ish feet long. I pretty much hyperventilated and couldn’t move for a few seconds. When I realized he really wasn’t moving either, I snapped a quick pic to show Darling Husband later. Then I immediately got back into my car and drove to my in-laws house.
I HATE snakes, like with a passion. I used to have the same recurring nightmare when I was a kid about walking through my grandmother’s yard and there would be lots of tiny snakes crawling around. Once I finally got to the door, I would reach my hand out to open it and an enormous python would bite my neck and I’d wake up. Terrifying.
We live out in the country, so I know there are snakes around. Because of this, I am pretty paranoid. I always glance at the ground (and now look in the fallen leaves as I’m walking by). I usually see at least one snake a year either on the road or in a yard somewhere. Not this year…until today. I’m still shaking. I called my Mother-In-Law so that I’d have someone to talk me down. Seriously, I cannot stand snakes. They creep me out to no end. I’m not too fond of spiders, but I can kill them at least.
Needless to say, I am NOT going back today until Darling Husband gets off work.
ETA: Can someone move this to the lounge, please? 🙂

I would have run away screaming my head off! Snakes freak me out!

Haha I’m sorry I had to laugh… I have a pet snake. 🙂
I’m really sorry that happened to you though. I have a thing with spiders and I do freeze up if I find myself near an unusually large one. Totally freaks me out, so I understand the feeling.
Hope your day gets better. 🙁

Yeah I worry about them under leaves and in shrubs. I was always looking out for them when i lived in the burbs.
But my roomate in college had this “boyfriend” move in with us and he brought his 13 foot bermese python. No cage for the snake, so he just went all over our apartment. It was creepy as crap at first. He stayed with us for about a month and in the end would follow us around like a puppy and I got used to him. Just him… no other snake, no desire to have one, touch one or deal with them ever again.

I can’t read this thread because if I start thinking about them too much I’ll start shaking/tearing up/etc, but I just want to chime in and say that you’re not alone.

I have a huge phobia of snakes. Just thinking about them freaks me out. I can’t look at pictures or see them on tv with out shaking and freaking out. It’s really bad. I even refuse to go hiking in the woods until I think it is “too cold” for snakes.

I don’t hate them, I think they are fascinating. I think the little ones are cute, too.
but I DO have to say that if I saw a 4 foot snake sitting at my front door, my immediate reaction would have been to scream and run away! I have no idea which ones are dangerous or not.

I am terrified of snakes. I can’t even look at or touch a picture of one.

I am terrified of snakes, too! And I used to have a reoccuring dream about snakes, but luckily haven’t in quite sometime. I would wake up (in the dream) and there would be snakes ALL OVER the house. I would have to run through all of them to get outside and then when I got outside, they were everywhere! Then I would wake up. I can’t go to somebody’s house if they have a pet snake. *shudders*

Snakes don’t bother me but I can understand the feeling because I HATE spiders. Even small ones give me the creeps!

It actually took me several minutes to even open this thread to read it…

I would hyperventilate as well.

I’m sorry that happened, but I love snakes. I’ve had 4 altogether. They are probably my favorite of our pets. : /

you are so not alone i hate snakes. i hate them a lot. my cousins’ wonderful piece of sh*t father would bring home baby rattlesnakes as “presents” for them. the problem was they didnt really have a reptile cage… so that meant occasional escaping. yeah it freaked me the hell out to ever go over there. my male cousins would also have contest where they would fing garden snakes and try to get them to bit them and see who could deal with it longer. yeah not ok.
also when i was on vacation we had to be really really paranoid because the rv park we were staying at apparently had a trailer that had a 13 foot python i think it was that escaped and they put out a notice to be careful exiting trailers and tents because the snake would try to get to warm things so dont leave anything open or it will get inside… i was like 10 at the time
so yeah im pretty much scarred for life when it comes to snakes…
