Def Birken and Hermes in general (I own none), Chanel (esp vintage) the flap bags in basic colors and also the book bags I’ve seen do really well in terms of resell, and I’ve sold a few Gucci bags. I’m never letting go of my soho because it’s my fav but it’s one I’ve seen resell for close to retail.

Choose a bag you adore, that fits with your personal style, not the one you think is the best investment. You’ll be so much happier with it.

Oh I love purses!! Any kind! I don’t get it with loving shoes but purses are great! I can’t afford them though. The most I have had is a Fossil bag and I just love it. Haven’t used it in a couple of years but it is always in my mind that I will again someday.

That’s the thing. I like pretty much everything and can’t decide!

I think the shoes, I’m a bit wary to buy designer because they do get worn out more, get dirty fast (for me at least) and they are in contact with the ground. As long as it’s comfy, I’m good.

Fellow designer bag lover over here! You are definitely not alone. I hope to buy a Balenciaga city bag within the next couple of years. I’m a grad student, so definitely not in the budget for a while!

Surely you have some idea of what you want. Isn’t there a particular designer whose stuff you love? A style or shape of bag that you’re particularly fond of? I feel like the first designer bag is the easiest because its totally 100% go with what you love and have been lusting after for years.
Once you’re growing the collection you have to be more practical about what you already have.

I say go for something that appeals to your tastes that’s in your price range. I know how much I’m willing to spend on a bag right now, and it’s not enough to get an LV (which is fine because I really only like their empreinte bags – not a huge fan of monograms all over). With that said, I just bought my first Coach bag (Rogue 1841) and I’m in love. The leather is amazing, suede lining, beautiful hardware and stitching… I’ll be carrying this one for a while!

I’m totally going to check it out!!! Thanks.

agree with PP about purchasing bags you love and can get some use out of instead of holding a bunch of brand new limited edition bags in storage as investment pieces (unless you have the cash reserve to do so then by all means!)
But if by “investment” you meant bags that will retain their re-sale value, then fashion houses like LV, chanel and hermes are your best bet. If you keep the bags in good condition, classics such as the speedy 30 (in MG or DE, newer bandouliere, or size 25 has becoming more popular lately); neverfull mm or gm; chanel classic flaps (medium or jumbo, caviar leather has gained more popularity lately d/t its durability vs lambskin); chanel boy (resale not as good as classic flaps); chanel WOC; and the creme de la creme, hermes birkin and kelly
you probably already know all of this but hope it helps a little!

Ummm… yeah, hi.. I’m pinkshoes and I have a handbag problem. I was into LV faithfully for a while, and recently branched out in the last few years. I’m currently eyeing YSL college bag…

Me! I love designer bags. My favorite brands are Chanel and Celine. I want a Birkin eventually, but more because it’s the HG for bag lovers than for the design itself. I’m going to wait on that one, though, and save up for some diamond studs first. I’m also loving Mansur Gavriel lately — they are so simple, classic, and utilitarian, and the price point is amazing.

Try as I might, I can’t bring myself to like Hermes bags. I’m a Gucci and Chanel girl through and through so I’d rather have 4 Chanels vs 1 Hermes. But who knows…perhaps my taste will evolve in a few years.
Good to see you back, girl!
