Yes! Fiance is sooo stubborn over quality! He told me he spent ages looking for a good quality diamond for me and drove the jeweller mad! Lol but it’s nice because it shows me just cares. So just see it as a positive!

@VictoriaK1990:  I feel you! Everything I owned pre-DH is Goodwill-chic. Now I buy new things and wear 10K on my finger. It makes my head dizzy sometimes!

Yes my fiance was VERY particular about quality when it came to the engagement ring.  He spent months looking for the perfect diamond and probably drove the jeweler crazy.  I think it’s a great thing he went to such lengths.  Normally, he looks for the best deals for clothes and whatnot, but in this case, he wanted nothing less than the best for his wife to be 🙂

@VictoriaK1990:  My Fiance was the same way!  Throughout the ring shopping procees as I watched the budget grow higher & higher I became a wreck about the amount of money he considering spending.  He was adamant about wanting to get a certain size center stone & I kept saying, “we can go smaller”.  One night after getting stone prices we came home & I started crying over how crazy stupid the prices are.  You are so right about it being sweet but frusterating.  A friend finally told me to stop worrying about the money part. To enjoy it and let him spend what he wanted to spend.

In the end, I felt good about helping negotiate a lower price on the setting & helping to find a center stone that met all of his (very specific) requirements at a pretty good price.  And while yes, I still can’t believe it, I love it and couldn’t be happier.

@VictoriaK1990:  Absolutely!!! as I sit here and type my SO is snoring next to me. LOL Anyhow, My SO wanted me to have a simple solitaire but that is not my style, he finally agreed to get me a Halo vintage style ring. (waiting patiently) Reason why he agreed because of one of my friends always trying to out do me and got what we decided to have. She also got in engage, she got the solitaire and she got her SO the same style band I wanted to get my SO.

Yes, the three things that he absolutely would not budge on were:

– Clarity had to be VVS1

– Colour had to be D

– Setting had to be platinum

Oh, and it had to be a Canadian diamond and from Birks. Cut and carat were least important on his list. My diamond is not huge but I’m amazed when I look at it because it seems so perfect to me!

ETA: My wedding band will cost pretty close to the same as my engagement ring because we’re back to the same criteria I just listed.

My fiance is the same way. He is like that with EVERYTHING. Cars, furniture, pillows, anything. He always wants the best of the best otherwise it’s not worth buying. I am not used to this mentality. My mother is like that, but I have lived most of my adult life working a mediocre job that doesn’t pay too well.

Anyway, yep, he was totally like that with the ring. And the wedding bands.

@PenultimateWhisk:  My Fiance is the exact same way.  We’ve been together for 4 years and over the years he’s taught me that it’s far better to buy something once and be happy than to cut corners and end up spending extra time and money later on making it right.  However it’s because of me that he now comes home and raves about how he got such and such on sale 🙂  Maybe he’ll learn a thing or two from you on how to also be frugal.

Quality was my fiancé’s main priority when it comes to my engagement ring. I know he can buy me a bigger diamond or one with a halo or side stones from other jewelry stores, but he didn’t like those type of rings (I think they’re very pretty, but not my style either).

He didn’t like “blingy” rings at all and instead he chose a classic solitaire princess cut ring from Tiffany & Co. He cared a lot about the color grade, cut, and ESP the clarity, and since he has only been getting me jewelry from Tiffany, I wasn’t surprised that he decided to buy my engagement ring from there as well. It didn’t matter to me where he got it from, I’ll be so thankful for any ring he gives me. He chose my ring on his own and not once did I give him any tips on what ring I like.

I couldn’t be happier with my ring. He did an amazing job picking it out! It is so elegant, and it sparkles like crazy!
