Hey Bees! Is anyone else having a male bridesmaid? One of my best friends growing up is a man now, and he is one of my bridesmaids…. I don’t know what to have him wear! Initially, I just had him wearing the same thing as the groomsmen, becasue he’s a guy right? But now he has asked me if he can wear something different. I don’t know!!!!
The ladies are wearing navy dresses, with a pink fabric flower accent and pink shoes. The guys are wearing ivory tuxedos with ivory shirt/shoes and navy blue ties and vests. My FH is wearing all ivory, and my dad has the same tux with a pink tie and vest.
My bridesman called and asked if he could wear a navy tux, since he woudl be standing with all navy dresses. I actually don’t think everyone will be standing at any time, and no “line-up” style pictures. His case is that he doesn’t want to stick out like a sore thumb in real ife or in pictures. He also admitted that he si not fond of the ivory tuxedos. My case, is taht he will look more out of place if he doesn’t match the wedding party, navy tuxedos are remarkably hard to find, the one he did find so far, which I vetoed, has satin trim which the ivory tuxes don’t have. now he wants to wear a navy suit with pink shirt/vest/tie. But my dad is wearing a pink tie/vest!
Also, in discussing this with my Maid/Matron of Honor, she asked me what I would say if one of the other BMs wanted to wear a different dress, and I woudl be like “Hells to the no” so she’s like, just tell him what to wear, he’ll be fine.
I don’t see lots of pics of this type of wedding party, so i was wondering what y’all think. I also tend to wonder if he’s just being difficult because he doesn’t liek what i picked out

My brother was my dude of honor and he was dressed the same as the groomsmen. People knew he was standing up for me because he stood on my side!

I think a navy blue suit with a pink tie/vest would be wonderful. He’d clearly fit in with the other bridesmaids from a color standpoint. And his outfit would be quite different from your father’s–same accents, but completely different background color.

bump…. anyone else?
Now, I’m considering Navy tux (only if he can find one that is VERY similar to the ivory ones the rest of the dudes are wearing) with light pink shirt, dark pink vest and tie in the same pattern as the other guys, and PINK chuck taylors (cause the ladies are wearing pink shoes)
Thoughts? Experience? Suggestions?

@2dBride: I agree with this. If he wants to stand out from the groomsmen, you should let him. It’s important to him to be part of the brides side.

I think navy blue suit all the way.

My best fried was a bridesman. The guys on DH’s side wore a traditional black tux, black bow tie, and no vests. He wore the same black tux with a purple bow tie to match the girls.

Teen LK was my man of honor. He wore the same tux as Mr. LK and the best man. But my matron of honor wore a black dress, so everyone was in black anyway. LOL I think it can go either way. And in your case, I think the navy suit may work better to visually connect your bridesman to your bridesmaids.

I actually took a second to think about it and how the group photos would look.. it would be best if he were in navy. I also agree that it should be similar to the other tuxes, but getting caught up on it being exactly the same just navy is over-the-top. It’s nice that he was considerate enough to want to match your ladies and represent you. I think it was a good gesture.

I saw a post on offbeat bride today about this very thing:
I thought that the girls who wore dresses to match the groomsmen looked very nice–I would imagine that a navy tux with a navy vest and pink tie would look great with the other bride attendants. The pink chucks would be awesome but if it’s too much pink for him, compromise with pink socks and dress shoes.

I’m having one of my BFFs be a “bridesman” for me. The girl’s dresses will be cobalt blue, but I am not so cruel as to put him in a cobalt suit, so I am thinking a bluer navy with a cobalt tie. I am actually kind of envious of your perfect fix of navy and navy 🙂

Thanks everyone! I talked to him today, and he totally digs the navy suit iwth light pink shirt, dark pink vest and tie in the same pattern as the guys, and pink chucks!!!
AWESOME!!! So now I just have to got o MWTux and select the vest and tie, and he can do the rest 🙂

Navy suit and pink accessories, black shoes. Have the flower on his lapel match the BM’s bouquet. He does not need a tux in navy – just a dress suit.

@helenberrycrunch: LMAO!!! “dude of honor”! I LOVE IT!!! The fiance asked if I wanted my good friend Tony (who’s a guy) to be a bridesmaid and I laughed at him. Now that I see this is normal, i’m going to ask him to be my DUDE OF HONOR.

I don’t like the idea of the pink shoes, but I do think that he would look great in the navy suit with pink accents.
I am having a bridesman. The groom is wearing a black suit/vest/bowtie and the groomsment are wearing black suits/black necktie/black vest combos. My bridesmaids are wearing long champagne dresses, and my bridesman is wearing a black suit with champagne vest/tie to match the girls’ dresses.
