My son was born over 2 months premature and now I am afraid to ttc again, anyone else have this happen? I know I would be more monitored and be considered high risk but I am terrified. I don’t know why I am so scared as my son is developing fine as he was born in April 20, 2015 and the EDD was July 2nd 2015 I am just scared what if the next baby decides to come too early? I know there’s a lot of what ifs when it comes to pregnancy and there’s no guarantees, some pregnancies don’t even result in a live birth and end in a miscarriage but I find now this is hindering me in trying for baby #2! Anyone else out there afraid to get pregnant again after having a difficult pregnancy either having a preemie or other issues?

My mom was really sick with me (hyperemesis, then pre-eclampsia, c-section at 32 weeks). I know she was terrified to get pregnant again. Her pregnancy with my sister was stressful for different reasons, but she actually went post-dates with my sister!
Wish I had words of wisdom for you, but I do think your feelings are normal.

Whirlwind03 : There is actually a history of premature births in my family my mom had my sister and I both 2 months premature. My mom never could explain why this happened but because of today’s technology I found out I have a bicornuate uterus, so there isn’t as much space for baby to grow, I guess she had that too but I will never know for sure as she has passed. Just got to keep positive I guess as my mom had 2 live births and myself 1 so far and no miscarriages!

Hmm…would it be worth talking to your doc about if that is a factor and if so if there’s anything they can do?
I totally get your feelings, though. We are currently TTC and I know that I am at higher risk for pre-eclampsia because my mom had it and it is already stressing me out!

My son was born at 32 weeks due to severe preeclampsia and placental abruption.
I just met with my OB this week. We are currently TTC. We discussed the next pregnancy. He plans on just having more frequent visits etc. Also I will be started on aspirin at 12 weeks, as some studies suggest it may help with preeclampsia.
Its scary, but having another little one far outweighs my fears right now. Just trying to stay positive!

MRS-K : Not personally, but my cousin and his wife never did TTC again after having a preemie. They were split on having two to begin with, so it was already swayed. A good friend of mine also had a preemie, and did TTC again. She had a chunky little baby girl at full term. Sorry I wasn’t more help!

yes and no… Ive been trying for a sibling for years, all babies in our family have been preemie but as someone who is infertile I would love to just get to the point where I can have a live birth and a chance
to me its scarier never to try, never to have another and to regret it than it is to deal with what may never happen when it comes

MRS-K : Do you know why he was born early? Incompetent cervix? Preeclamsia?

cstarkwe : Hopefully your next pregnancy will go smoothly and I agree trying for another baby totally outweighs any fears that might not even happen the second time around.

RunnerBride13 : I have a bicornuate uterus (heart shaped uterus) so there isn’t as much space for my baby to grow.

I would talk to your doctor about a cerclage in your next pregnancy. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3719309/
My first was a preemie. My water broke at 33 weeks. He spent 19 days in the NICU.
We did have a 2nd child. Because of my history, I was monitored more closely, did 4 weeks of bedrest and medication. We had her at 37 weeks.
