Generally brown blood is old blood and nothing to worry about. If it’s red, new blood, then that could be a potential problem (but not always either).

So if I had to bet, I’d say it’s no biggie at the moment

Hi MrsD

That bit of brown blood on wiping is nothing to worry about and really normal to have spotting in the first 8 weeks 🙂 just need to worry if there is frank red blood loss that you are filling up pads or severe cramps.

I’m at a similar stage atm! X

Congrats on the pregnancy bee! I had some light brown spotting around 8w that totally freaked me out- I’m almost 15w now and FTM- I called my doctor and had an ultrasound and everything was fine, never really figured out what it was from. It happened once more a few weeks later but since it was the same I just let it be. I don’t think it can hurt to call your doctor but I’ve heard that it can be caused by sex or physical activity. Also, I think earlier in the pregnancy it can be from implantation and brown blood is usually old. Good luck!

I too am overly cautious because of my own difficult history many years ago, but in your situation I would call the OB’s office, describe/explain, and see what they say.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with being overcautious about a first pregnancy, and I had to LEARN to have total cnfidence in my care providers.

Fondest thoughts.

I’ve been having a little spotting as well – Thursday night/Friday morning, then last night and again this morning. It’s VERY light – hard to tell if it’s brown or pink, it’s so light. I went on Friday to have bloodwork and an ultrasound and, aside from finding out that I’m Rh-Negative and needed a Rhogam shot, the midwife doesn’t seem concerned about it so I’m trying not to be concerned either (easier said than done, right?). My best friend just keeps telling me that her sister-in-law had spotting throughout her entire pregnancy and she has an awesome toddler now, so I’m holding onto that.

I had frequent brown spotting in the beginning.  Then later on I had bright red bleeding several times.  Turned out I had a harmless cervical polyp.  But they can bleed a lot, especially after physical activity.  I needed to be on “pelvic rest.”  No sex.

My now 4 month old is sleeping in her swing, healthy and strong!

Wishing you a happy, healthy 9 months!

ETA:  I should also add, I have been pregnant 4 times.  2 miscarriages and 2 healthy babies.  I spotted/bled with both healthy babies!  I only bled with the miscarriages after they were diagnosed, and there was no mistaking that bleeding with “light spotting.”

I am currently 15w today, but spotted a light brown discharge from 4w4d until sometime in week 7. It never turned red, and wasn’t always there… but did show up more than it wasn’t. If it had gotten worse, I would have gone in. But, it never did and I never had any cramping that was more than what I had been experiencing, etc.

When I saw my OB a few weeks ago (my first appointment), she was it was normal and didn’t seemed concerned. No issues with the baby.

It could be nothing- especially if it’s brown.  Sex can cause spotting because the cervix is so sensitive.  My friend had spotting with both her pregnancies, I think generally caused by sex, but it there weren’t any issues otherwise.  People with a placenta previa can also have lots of red spotting and they might be asked to take things easier but generally it’s not a huge deal if you take it easy (OB might recommend no exercise or sex in these cases).  I would try not to worry, red blood is more worrisome, especially if it is more than spotting or accompanied by heavy cramping.

I had brown spotting with my son when I would go too hard at the gym, or if I was dehydrated  (I got pregnant during a very hot summer ), so maybe your run just kinda…..irritated things

Congrats on the pregnancy. When I had brown spotting, it was due to low progesterone. I had to start supplements and the spotting pretty much stopped immediately. Good luck and happy and healthy 9 months!

MrsD41503:  I had the same thing at 5 weeks 1 day. Everything is fine and my doctor said it was normal 🙂

I had bright red blood at 10 weeks with my first pregnancy. It shocked me and came out in a sudden gush. I also spotted on a pad for a few hours after. I had an emergency scan about 2 days later and baby was just fine. I bled (spotted) one more time around 14 weeks, brown blood that  time. Again, baby was fine and now he is a very health 14 month old toddler!
