I was sitting on the couch last night, kitty on lap (hooray!) when I noticed that half my engagement ring was missing! The whole head of the ring had fallen off, stone and prongs! It ended up not being that big a deal because, fortunately, it must have just happened. Mr. Snails found the stone with prongs still attached on the couch.
I’ve heard of stones coming loose of settings/prongs but never a whole head falling off. Has this happened to anyone else?

Oh my goodness, I would be terrified. I have never heard of something like that happening, but I mean, it makes more sense that the whole head came off than all of those stones came out individually.

i’ve never heard of the whole head coming off. i hope that you can take it back to the jewellery store so that they can fix it without cost.

I have had 2 stones fall out (seperate times). The first time was a side stone in the pave settings so a small stone. It happened at work. The 2nd time it happened in the middle of the night, Christmas Eve of all freaking days lol. I woke up and a stone from the center cluster fell out. It looked like someone had shot a hole through my ring with a BB gun! Both times the jeweler replaced the stones. The 2nd time though they sent it in to have it replaced and ended up melting my ring down and rebuilding it. Apparently when they resized my ring from a size 7 to a size 4 it was still too loose for settings. Since they fixed it last year I have not had a problem since.
As for the head….that’s crazy but hopefully they will fix it for free and quickly!

Thanks for the support everyone! I thought it was crazy too!
I think we are going in on Saturday to see if they will fix it but I sort of doubt they will. It’s a store located in a mall and we didn’t buy ring insurance. Maybe they will though since it sounds like it is an uncommon problem?
I’m wondering if maybe there’s a way to re-do the ring to make it sturdier. I work with my hands a lot shelving/carrying books so I’m constantly banging it into things.
