In marathoning, you don’t do much training the last 2-3 weeks before the race, to allow your body to recover, heal, and rest before the big day. It’s called taper. And during taper, all sorts of crazy thoughts come to mind, and sudden aches appear. It’s called taper madness. I think I have the bridal version.
I ran my first marathon in my dad’s memory. And it NEVER rained, on ANY of my training runs. I wanted it to rain, since they say never to do anything on race day that you haven’t done in training, and if race day was rainy, I wanted to have had the experience of running in the rain so I could prepare. But it never happened. The skys would open as soon as I FINISHED a run, or the downpour would suddenly stop as I was lacing up my shoes to start running. I started to wonder if my dad was pulling strings to make sure the weather cooperated for me. Rain seems common when it comes to wedding prep. Our engagement was pushed back due to rain (he proposed outside, so date night was rescheduled). It seems like most of the time that I do something related to my dress (pick it out, try it on, get it altered, take it home), it rains. We just went to Maine to take care of lose ends, and it rained the whole time. I’m really really hoping for a nice day, but accuweather is now calling for rain (it’s over 3 weeks away, so its not like they can be accurate, and yesterday they predicted sunny and 83). But now I can’t help but wonder if my dad is trying to tell me something with all this rain. It’s probably just bridal taper madness!
Is anyone else going thru taper madness too?
