I’m having a friday wedding, too! 🙂 We actually didn’t really get deals on anything for having it on friday at 6:30 (so people have time to get from work), but more things were available. Since our engagement is 5 months, we went ahead and sent save the dates right away. March would have been way to early for invites, but with our wedding in the summer and on a friday…we wanted people to be able to plan ahead. we’re sending our invites out at the normal time. So instead of sending your invites out super early, you might consider save the dates! just a thought!

I had a Friday afternoon wedding (and my hubby’s name is Derek!) and I only had one person unable to attend because of work. Everyone else was able to attend. It helped that our wedding was about a week before Christmas so my cousins were on Christmas break and many of my other guests were able to get time off for the holidays. But since yours starts later in the evening, I’m sure most of your guests will be able to leave work early in order to attend. But sending your invites out maybe one week early couldn’t hurt either.

We’re having a Friday afternoon wedding.  It’s on a government holiday (July 3), but it will be somewhat of a destination wedding for everyone (the closest guest lives an hour away).  We realize that means that the only way people will be able to attend is if they take the day off or already have it off.  We didn’t send out Save-The-Date Cards, but we’ve been spreading the word since we set the date almost a year ago, and my fiancee’s family included mention of the wedding in their Christmas card.  We also chose a Friday because it was about 2K cheaper; in addition, the wedding is just outside of a major metropolitan area where popular venues book up all Saturdays well over a year in advance.  Ultimately, we decided it was worth it to go for a Friday, even if it will limit the number of people who attend.

We are having a friday wedding- the ceremony is at three-thirty though. Since it is a ‘destination’ wedding and many of our guests are coming in from out of town most of the people we know who are going are taking the time off as a vacation anyway. Which is what we hoped since the wedding and other planned activities are being held that week!

I would send out Save-the-Dates so it is clear that they see ahead of time the wedding is on a Friday. Then send out your invites early to those who would need to plan ahead. The only problem with sending out invites early is people tend to forget… lose the invite and contact you- or put the invite to the side until the time draws nearer…But those who want to go will make it a priority to be there. So at least you hve that going for you!

But I hear you on the cost savings! So many vendors are like ‘oh- it isn’t a peak day or time! We can definitely accomodate you’… We managed to save on the caterer (no minimum expenditure on certain items), save on the venue, save on plane tickets & hotel accomodations for our friends and family who will be travelling on off peak times… And everyone can have the whole weekend to veg- so in essence it makes it a three-four day weekend for some. And our guests aren’t complaining.

2 month standard should be fine.

We’re doing the same thing, but on Sunday evening, also $2k cheaper than Saturdays. 🙂

I figured if people want to not work Monday or tough it out, it’s their choice.

We’re having a  Friday night wedding too, but our ceremony is at 7 pm. So everyone should be able to get there in time after work. We did send out save the dates, but I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Most likely, you’ll get some folks that miss the ceremony, but not the reception.

We are having a friday evening wedding starting at 530. It’s a destination wedding for most (including us) because most people will be traveling, or at least driving a few hours. We didnt do Save-The-Date Cards but sent the invitations out a little early, around 3 months, to give people a heads up. Most people who are unable to make it wouldnt have been able to make it on a Saturday either because of travel costs, so it didnt seem to make much difference for the guest list. We did save a few thousand dollars on the venue and photographer though!

we’re friday nighters!  For no other reason than I just preferred that date.

I didn’t realize til later that we were really saving money (and we’re only saving about $600 as far as I can tell) I just really wanted to get married on a Friday night!

We are considering holding our wedding on "Black Friday" (day after Thanksgiving). We can get up to 15% off depending on where we officially decide to hold the wedding.

Prior to reading this post, I didnt’ really think about maybe sending the invites out a little bit earlier, I may do this.

We are having our wedding on a Friday night also. We did research and found out that we could save money if we held the wedding on that day of the week, but as it turns out, it isn’t making a bit of difference because we’re getting married on a beach and having the reception at restaurant, so we would’ve have incurred the extra weekend fees anyway. I am concerned, though, because it’s a destination wedding and we are getting married at dusk. I just hope everyone can make it there in time. In retrospect, I probably should’ve planned for a Saturday event so people wouldn’t have to take time off work. However, who doesn’t like taking off work early, right?

We had a Friday night wedding!  It was a "destination" wedding for the majority of our guests, and I figured it would be nice to spend more then just the 6 hour wedding with them, so we planned a brunch for the next morning and were able to mingle and talk with everyone.  We didn’t leave for our honeymoon until Monday, so we had a nice long wedding weekend.  We did get a discount for having a Friday wedding, but I truly wanted a Friday night wedding right off the bat.  There’s something about Friday that says "Party"… and then you have all day Saturday to recover and you still have Sunday to be productive 🙂 before work on Monday.

We had a Friday night wedding and it turned out fabulous and only one couple had a problem and that was due to religious observances.  We had a lot of people coming in from California so we did not have a rehearsal dinner on Thursday night but a post-wedding dinner for out of town guests.  It was so nice to just spend the evening with everyone.  We also had breakfast for everyone who wanted breakfast the next morning.
