AdaLee:  I’ve been to several weddings where there was a “send off” at the ceremony location. It takes some time for everyone to get outside, be handed whatever they are using (rice, bubbles, wands, etc), and get organized. I’d say I’ve usually seen the “send off” done maybe 20 mintues after the ceremony is concluded. That gives you time for some pictures.

Otherwise, as others have said, people often leave after the reception “send off”, so you can schedule it at the end of the reception. We have the reception hall for 5 hours from 1pm-6pm so at 5:45 we are ducking out for a couple pictures outside while our DOC gets the guests out to the send-off point and gives them wands or whatever. Then at 5:55 off we go and people get out. So it’s serving the purpose of making sure we don’t go overtime on the hall.

I didn’t plan a send off for my wedding (which was like two weeks ago), but after we were done with some group shots, we still had a little bit of time left with the photographer. She directed us to hold hands and come down the steps, and for a split second I thought “uh, ok, this is weird” but when we stepped down, we got a big surprise! I didn’t see it coming and I think my face says it all!

I can’t wait to see the professional pics of this hehe 🙂
