    @MrsPhilly:  So true about the details of the ring! 🙂 I had them, and then i forfgot! 🙂  A ring is such a different meaning to each of us, and that is what makes it so special and so unique.  I have had a hard time with ladies that ‘need’ a bigger ring or want to upgrade right away, but maybe becuase I am so happy with mine…

    I have an idea of how big my center stone is, but no idea on the total carat weight including the side stones, or any of the other specs. I don’t really care to be honest! I love my ring and that is good enough for me

    I have a rough idea, but don’t know for sure. It’s between .25 and .33. It was FIs moms ring. He never needed to know the details. When getting it resized, I was told it was either quarter or third carat. The size was never important. I like metalwork more than giant sparkles to begin with.

    i know the carat weight of my ring but i couldn’t tell you the other specs. i had to look it up on the certificate when i commented on another thread about clarity. i was there when DH bought my ring. we picked it out together so i’ve always known the size but yeah, it’s not that important to me.

    @adillon1:

    Is the main stone in your engagement ring an actual diamond?  You may want to look into getting it appraised for insurance purposes.. ..While you may not “care” about carat weight, you’d probably “care” if it got lost or stolen and like it replaced.Wink

    I have a cert that came with my diamond engagement ring so I know the carat weight and other specs..Insurance companies need that stuff.

    For those of you who don’t know the carat size, I can’t think of any reason why you’d need to know, except for insurance purposes. Other than that it seems like only a good thing. The worst thing about diamond engagement rings is the carat races. Carat is only one factor in cost but the easiest one to understand, so it becomes a rough marker of how much was spent, and whenever conspicuous spending is happening, there’s gotta be a race.

    There is no winning the carat races, because there is no perfect size… but that doesn’t mean people feel like it’s not a race. Instead…everyone is a loser! Except those who don’t play. And you can’t play this fun, fun, fun game if you don’t know your number. Darn it.

    I do know my carat because I learned a lot about every aspect of my diamond, because turns out I’m really captivated by diamonds and other natural gemstones. But the carat is by far my least favorite “C” in understanding diamonds. It conveys nothing about quality, and therefore only speaks about relative cost. I do my best to opt out of the races by having chosen a “middle” (blend-in) size for my area, and not sharing my exact carat, even on the bee, though I love to share anything else about my diamond. Of course, this can still be thrown off because a) I know, so I could always be tempted to play the carat race in my own head, and b) If I move, the size may not “blend in” anymore.

    I know the size of my engagement ring but my wedding bands I have no clue!  I’d like to know just out of curiosity.  They are both eternity bands.  FH spoils me and let me get both 🙂

    P.S. totally love all the emerald-cut love on this thread!

    I don’t know- but I’d like to just to satisfy my curiosity. I’ve got a rough idea but I’d feel bad asking. Silly- I know!

    I don’t know, and aside from just being slightly curious, I really don’t care!  It’s beautiful and sparkly, and I get compliments on it often, but I don’t know the size, nor has anyone ever asked me.

    I wanted to know the carat equivalent size for some stones in a pendant so I googled carat to mm measurents for that cut, it was super accurate and now I have a “new” pendant with equivalent size stones, if you did want to know measure could give you a  ball park idea of carat size

    I don’t know mine. I know that it’s IF clarity, because Fiance told me. He said he wanted something sparkly. But I have no clue what size it is. Average size, for where I am? Maybe 0.3, 0.4? I doubt Fiance would know either, to be honest. All he said was “I looked at bigger ones, but when you got above that size then the price rose a lot, and it didn’t seem worth it for the extra you got, so I got that one”.

    My husband started telling me all about the specs of the ring right after he proposed before he put it on my finger!!! I was like, “I don’t care how many carats, how clear it is, just put the damn thing on my finger!!” i think he was just excited about it, lol.
