Yep.  I did.  Don’t feel bad.  I knew that if I wanted the relationship to take the next step noe, then I would need to do it.  If I were ok with waiting, I could have waited for him to do it.  But, I didn’t want to wait.

I’m not engaged yet, but the ONLY reason I’m not proposing to my SO is because he REALLY, REALLY likes throwing people surprises–he’s the type that’s into big romantic gesturues and all that even though I’m fairly neutral about them 😛 But otherwise, I think it’s SO GREAT for the girl to propose, and I would totally be up for hearing your story! Sure, a lot of Bees are traditional, but I’m sure lots of us would be happy for you no matter what and totally want to hear all about how you proposed!

And congratulations!

In the middle of him proposing to me I ran and got the ring I had made for him (long story short we had talked about getting engaged and when he asked me to help him find a custom jeweller for a necklace he wanted to have made!! yeah right!… I had the designer on the QT make a matching one for him)

And proposed right back to him – so we said YES together:

I proposed to my fella two days ago. It was the third anniversary of the business he set up, which is doing great now. I cooked a beautiful meal, we had some prosecco, we  talked in bed about our future and I asked him. I knew that we had discussed it ahead  of time and he wanted to get married, though it was a massive surprise when he said yes. He had been wanting to ask me.

The date May 9th 2012 , is 66 years to the day since my grandfather proposed to my grandmother,  I didn’t know till I read through his memoirs tonight. So I feel kinda vindicated that the took the rather untraditional step and asked him.

We haven’t gone public with it yet, so I do wonder how it feel to tell the story to people who expect that he has gone down on one knee. I know that engagement is a moment between two people, it’s not about the industry and showmanship that often surrounds it. I guess when we pick out a ring, if he feels moved to, he can do the whole speech/getting his knee dirty thing (only with all the certainty that I will say yes, lol!)

@Nellop:  I was expecting to catch more flack for it, but I haven’t received any really negative comments.  Some people are surprised, most just seem happy for us, which is the whole point : )

Sorry not everyone is so understanding towards you.  What crap.
