While I think they’re really beautiful, I feel like ever since Kate Middleton wore a lace dress, every bride and their mother is marrying in one. And, I really wanted one before she made it so popular.
A bridal consultant told me recently that the trend used to be pickups, then ruffles and now it’s all lace dresses. Personally, I’ve always wanted a “wow” dress and my “dream” dress when I started looking was lace with ruffles. But, now.. I just want something super simple and clean and classic b/c I’m so tired of seeing all these lace dresses! I really want my dress to be unique. I guess it matters less to me since life has interrupted my wedding planning and dress shopping and everything has been put on hold.
How do you feel about wedding dress trends? What do you think is the next trend?
ETA: Perhaps “trendy” may have been the wrong word – I do think lace is pretty timeless and elegant. I love it, I think it’s gorgeous. I’m just tired of it. I think the word I should have chosen was “popular” in that it wasn’t as popular or common among dresses until recently.

I actually like lace but I see your point. I think you are going to start to see more dresses with sleeves and straps

I don’t think lace is a trend. It’s rather timeless. I think there has just been an extra boom with it lately. I think theyre gorgeous, but they werent gorgeous on me one bit.
I think the next trend is flowy/chiffon strappy dresses. The bohemian/outdoorsy style is getting popular.

Yep, sick of seeing the same lace dresses!

I love lace dresses! My mother wore a lace dress when she got married 35+ years ago, and I wanted to wear one as well.

i love the lace dresses. but i’ve always loved lace. it’s nice to see a mixup of different styles. i hope the next trend isn’t the poofy 80’s sleeves but i bet that’s what happens next haha.

I think lace dresses are more classic than trendy. I personnally think fit and flair and textured bottoms are really trendy. Once shoulder dresses were a big trend for a while there too. I would go with whatever dress you find that you love and not worry if they style is too popular or not.

Lace dresses are more timeless than anything. I love lace dresses!

Nope, my dress is lace, it is the only thing I would consider, and don’t care if that is what everyone else is wearing. My grandmother and mother also wore lace dresses.
I am happy to start seeing dresses are are not strapless (can’t stand them, and contrary to what I’ve read, everyone does not look good in them, in fact many women look like linebackers, myself included).
would like to see more simple, elegant dresses. the big poufy things are meant for everyone either.

I am a little tired of it, but I think it’s because the designers all seem to be thinking very “in the box” and making the same five dresses over and over again. There are a lot of other things that could be done with lace, if they tried.

Lace isn’t a trend, it’s a classic. Queens wore lace, my great grandmas and grandma wore lace, etc. I wanted to wear lace and ended up with a simple chiffon sheath, but I still love lace.

I don’t really think of lace as a trend; it’s like saying that pearls are a trend…? I think lace is classic for a wedding. Lace is popular right now but has it ever really gone “out”? There are only a few fabrics that wedding dresses tend to be made out of, so I guess I don’t consider any type of fabric to be a trend. The cut is much more what makes a dress look trendy to me.

Yup boooooring! And old fashioned for the most part. I see maybe 1 in 1000 lace dresses I actually like, the rest look like carbon copies of each other. But lots of girls want to be traditional so lace absolutely works for this look.

I’m with @MASPA; I don’t think of lace as a trend because it’s been around for so long and seems very timeless to me. I can understand that you might just not favor lace, same as I really hate the look of pick-ups, but saying “ugh, lace has been done” is like saying “ugh, roses have been done.” Some people don’t favor it, but it’s something that’s been around at weddings a long time and will probably continue to be. It’s not a passing trend.
That being said, I love lace when it’s used correctly, but I think it has to be done a certain way to keep it from looking matronly or dowdy, and I’ve even seen some lace dresses that look modern and fresh instead of the expected delicate patterns.

I can see how you might be tired of them, but woman have been wearing lace wedding dresses for years. My mom wore one, and both my grandmothers’ had one. Something that has been popular throughout a long time span is not a trend, it is classic. (I am rather tired of the ones with the keyhole baks though!)
