Definitely think this post is insulting to those people who have chosen lace.

I mean, there are about 3 choices for the main part of a wedding dress. Considering hundreds of thousands of people get married each year, there isn’t exactly a whole lot of options.

I tried on silk/ satin/ heavy gowns and I looked like I was going to a Year 12 formal, so I chose a dress that is lace but I would never say it’s a traditional or ‘seen it all before’ dress.

I like lace, lace is pretty and when a lace dress fits properly they can look stunning. However, I dislike unoriginality, and on my w-day I want to look original! Lace I think is fine, if you give it your own little twist and style it up.

Not yet! I originally started looking for a lace dress before I found my satin/silk a-line. Anyways, if I were to do it again, LACE ALL THE WAY, BABY!!

I can see why you would get sick of them, as they are very popular now, but I like them and think they are timeless 🙂

To be honest, really, there is only a few main fabrics to choose from, unless you want to be completley off beat and different and go for a red tulle dress or you know, something not ‘white, long and traditional’
I <3 lace, I am having a lace, trumpet dress. Oh No, dear me, I have fallen into a catergory. lol. No I haven’t, I have choosen something that appeals to me, I’m not a princesses, I am not plain, I’m not too crazy or over the top, I AM just me, I know what I like and I couldn’t care less what people think of my dress (I think they will love it because I love it)

I’m not offended at all because I love my dress and if we all liked the same thing. Wouldn’t this be a boring world!!

Check out this interesting read, if you are like most people on this thread and love a good lace dress:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/fashion/gallery/2011/oct/19/a-brief-history-of-lace
I have an older friend who owns a vintage store and she loves lace. She was telling me about the history the other day, about how children mostly made lace, it was only worn by royals, it took such a long time to make. Now days it’s pumped out.
And it’s weird, when I first started trying on dresses, I didn’t think they were that popular but since purchasing mine, I have found loads. Maybe it is because I am looking more, especially on the net.

I love lace… I also think they’re a really timeless look. And who cares that so many brides are wearing them now? I loved them until I tried one on, and I felt like I looked like my grandmother’s couch 😉 More power to you other ladies that pull them off so beautifully!

I have never thought of lace as a “trend”. I have always seen it as timeless, elegant, and incredibly gorgeous. Just because of Kate Middleton and also Twilight I have seen more long sleeves, but the lace aspect has been around forever.

I’m not sick of lace but I never wanted to wear it- I feel it is too “sweet” looking for me.  I agree with PP that lace is timeless, rather than a Middleton-inspired trend.

@futuremrsk18:   I will! Maybe I’ll even get some pics in it this weekend since I’m going home. The dress’s whole being is pretty funny. It was ‘preserved’ in a garment bag for 25 years in my grandma’s basement. It was never opened until a couple months ago and it didn’t yellow. We were amazed! I think its one of the best 80s dresses I’ve ever seen. But I’ll let you guys judge that haha.

Nope. Love them!! I think they’re beautiful and always have! I also believe they are timeless. I think marmaids and trumpets are more of a trend right now that you won’t see down the road…. but guess what kind of dress will still be rocking around in years to come…yup… lace!

I think lace is so beautiful – my only complaint is that they tend to be more expensive than other fabrics! I agree with everyone who said it doesn’t matter what’s popular or what everyone else is wearing at THEIR wedding. You will be the only one wearing a wedding dress at YOUR wedding, therefore you will be unique no matter what style you choose 😉

@EffieTrinket:  I am a little tired of it, but I think it’s because the designers all seem to be thinking very “in the box” and making the same five dresses over and over again. There are a lot of other things that could be done with lace, if they tried.

Agreed!  I’m not sick of lace at all, but more of seeing the lack of variety in lace dresses.

The trend I AM sick of is the mermaid trend, specifically the kind that tapers extremely in the knees.  I said it yesterday, but some mermaid dresses make it look like the only way you can walk is by scuttling with very tiny steps.  Like if you took too big a step you’d either rip your dress or fall flat on your face.  That just looks silly too me.

@KatyElle:  Agreed.  On occasion I see a ruffle dress that I like and works on a bride, but I’m pretty bored with the ruffle style.  Especially the kind that looks like giant roses, since they often look sort of wilted on the wedding day.
