I feel like it really depends on who it is comming from. When my fiance tells me I look beautiful, I feel its ingenuine because he’s really to the point, not mushy gushy at all! But I have dated guys who were sooo sweet, and I really enjoyed it, because thats who they are. Also, I really like metaphors, and similes, to me, its a great way to express yourself. I don’t take it literally, like you, but as it is meant to be taken, just a comparison of sorts, ya know?

@indibee: Now that is my kind of man! Tell me my butt looks nice and I will grin for days.

I’d ask what the hell was wrong with him, because that’s totally not his style. Also, it’s cheesy as hell (the poll phrase) and I’d be really turned off by it.

I don’t mind it in the right setting, however Darling Husband is usually super sincere, cries and stuff so perhaps that’s why it doesn’t bother me.

I voted that I’d be tickled, but I’d probably just laugh.. we always talk about how unromantic he is, so if he ever said something like that, it would probably just to get a rouse out of me, anyway. LOL!

I actually really like it. For one, because it’s totally like his style, and mine. We love to read, and he’s watched nearly every movie out there. So we have a lot of inside jokes from movies and books and such, and he will randomly say some debonere (sp?) comment that makes my heart melt.
I used to not be able to stand cheesy romance until I met my bf, he totally pulls it off and makes me giggle and feel special.
Now, if some guy that was into rap, or death metal, came up and quoted poetry (in all their rap/death metal gear) I would laugh laugh laugh and walk off.

“Laugh” should totally be an option, because that’s what I would do. We say stuff like that to each other as a joke. It just comes off as very insincere to me.

OP: You’re hilarious :). Fiance only pulls out the BS poetry crap when he wants something, but he knows I’m not going to take him seriously. I voted ‘slap him’ because I usually do (just on the arm, though!).
Post # 26
I wouldn’t slap him but I would say something like: “Holy cheeseballs where did that come from?” lol
Post # 27
I would slap him because I would know he is being sarcastic. But if it were someone I didn’t know, I would vomit in my mout a little. 🙂

LOL! As an English teacher, I am loving this post. My Fiance HATES HATES HATES love poems, so those words would never come out of his mouth. As long as he stays true to himself and he sounds genuine, I like whatever he says (most of the time).

My Fiance is usually a say what is from the heart kind of guy… Talks about things that actually happen in our lives and not things that people think girls want to hear. But every now and again he makes a cute science/math cheesy cornball comment that is so cute because its us and we are nerds.. For instance, yesterday we were talking about how his mom and I dont get along and how its like watching our sun “slowly” turn into a red dwarf star and engulf the earth.. and I was like oh yea??? which one am I ?? I am not the sun in your solar system.. and he says something to the effect of ..if I were a star in his universe I would go supernova (large stars supernova and smaller ones like our sun turn into red dwarfs) because I would be the brightest sun in his universe. lol lame.. yes.. but cute at the same time!

*burst out laughing* would be my response.
Who actually talks like that in real life???

@MrsPinkPeony: LOL! I love those!
@finnaroo: Awww, that’s so sweet! I don’t think that’s overly flowery at all. 🙂
@CorgiTales: I am loving the phrase “holy cheeseballs!”
