My grandmother has to get regular injections for her super low iron. She couldn’t imagine going without them… she can’t get out of bed if she misses her iron supplements. I hope other Bees stop by who have personal experience themselves.

My mother in law suffers from anemia and had to get injections in the past. They did help. Right now she’s going through another phase (last few months) in which iron supplements and foods are not helping much and she may need the injections again. I would give them a try! A 6 is very low!!! From what I’ve read, that is right around where you generally get a blood transfusion. You weren’t told you need one? I’m sorry you suffer from such bad anemia. I hope you can get the injections and I bet they will help!

I had an iron transfusion 7 years ago. I had always been anemic since I was a teenager, but randomly right after I graduated from college my test came up VERY anermic. After a super-fun summer full of tests it was finally determined that I simply don’t BUILD iron very well long periods + giving blood a lot (my brother was sick so I tended to do it as often as I could to feel like I was giving back) = seriously anemic. My hemotologist recommended an iron transfusion (i have no details as to type or whatever, I’m not sure if I ever knew). I had to go in and sit for a few hours with it going in. It looked really gross. But, I’d say within a week or so I felt noticeably better. I didn’t need a nap to get through the day (after sleeping 12 hours) and it was easier to think. I’ve been fine ever since without iron supplements (I’m just not allowed to give blood anymore).
