- Wedding: June 2011
I feel like in the last few days all of the things our friends & families promised us have backfired.
My best friend lives on the other side of the country and was excited to be a bridesmaid and offered us a wedding cake (we used to work as pastry chefs together). She called to let me know she has is now not sure if she’ll even be able to come, or when she’ll know for certain.
FIs sister offered to do my hair and makeup for the wedding, plus a couple of trials… today she emailed me saying she’s been pretty busy with her baby and work and she won’t be able to do it and good luck finding someone.
Which is extra sucky because there are very, very few places to go within a reasonable driving distance of the wedding, plus now I need to add that into my ever growing budget.
Which is also growing because while my parents offered us a set amount of money to cover ‘whatever you need for the day!’ and I planned a wedding well within that limit… now my mom has decided our DJ is too expensive for the day so she won’t pay. The photography is ridiculous and no one needs pictures for more than 2 hours so she’s not paying that. That we shouldn’t provide any alcohol, so no on that. And that the invitations were just ugly so she’s not paying for those.
It’s extra frustrating since I plan weddings for a living and got amazing discounts on both our DJ and photographer. And really… long after the wedding, except for memories… we will only have our rings and the photos. So that’s important.
Some of her most recent words were ‘I’ll pay for dinner for whoever bothers to show up, but that’s it.’. I haven’t even solidified the florist contract yet.
Ugh. Anyone else having some unwanted surprises along the way?
