I haven’t lived with my mother in over 15 years and she still complains that she finds my hair everywhere.  Even Darling Husband teases me that he could never leave me because a future woman would still find my hair on his cloths years down the line.  So yes, I understand.  I have even talked to my stylist about it and he says my hair is super healthy, it is just the way it is with some people.

Mine falls out SO much!  I heard it’s healthy to lose about 100 strands of hair a day.  With how much I find around my house, I wouldn’t be surprised to learn I lose 1000 a day, though.

I can sooo relate.

Mr TTR cannot believe how much hair I shed.

Research has told me that there is no “normal” number (ie 10 or 100+ hairs per day… although I’ve heard the number 150 bandied around more than once in my life).  It really is a “percentage”… so contingent on how much hair you have on your head to begin with.  And some of us have thicker hair growth than others.

The norm seems to be up to 10% – 15% which is the amount of hair on your head that is in that part of its cycle (ready to fall out naturally)

BUT there are other elements that can up that number to even as high as 30%… such as seasonal hair-loss (Spring & Fall) or Pregnancy / Childbirth (women naturally lose A LOT of hair post-partum)

Beyond that, there are other reasons for abnormal hair loss including… Diet – Drugs – Health – Sleep – and Stress

If you are unsure, you can always go see a Doctor for more info.

In my own case, my hair comes out a lot in the shower when I wash it, when I brush it, and on my pillow at night.  I also tend to “play with my hair” too often… run my hands thru it, twirl it, put into a pony tail etc… and all those things also mean that my “natural” daily hair loss is more pronounced / noticeable.

In my 20s I saw a Dermatologist and while there I asked about my hair loss… she determined that it was normal for me… and as I had had my thyroid checked by my Family Dr. (a common factor for some folks) that such loss was ok… she said that it was more a case of my having a thick head of hair… and probably more to do with the other fluctuating issues (Diet, but particulary Stress)

PS… With the amount of hair I lose daily, Mr TTR says I should be bald… but I am far from it… I have tons of hair !! (lol, be it on my head… or on the furniture, our clothes… or hanging out with the Dust Bunnies under my bed) *wink*

TO – Jacqui90:  If I read your Reply # 8 correctly…

You mean pick loose hairs off of things… clothes, furniture, car seats, each other ?

Ya I do that (and so does Mr TTR).  Although I’ve also discovered that a lint roller does the job best… we go thru a lot of disposible sticky-paper lint rollers !!

@This Time Round:  yeah that’s what i mean 🙂 Fiance doesn’t do it, just me, he sometimes laughs at me when i do it, something i am slightly OCD about, funnily enough i only pick my own hairs off things, or if my sister or mum has a hair on their clothes i do it, and when i see strangers with loose hairs i get antsy but i don’t bother picking dog hairs off anything, i get dog hairs all over my clothes, etc. and i hate using a lint roller strangely enough
