Wow no I love love love and encourage our couples to uplight! It makes the pictures have so much more depth and life to them. That’s so weird!

Maybe this is harsh but I think you should get a new photographer.  I don’t believe uplighting is a problem for a pro.

We had purple uplighting and our pics turned out great!  I am really surprised by your photographer’s response.

I also had a lot of lighting at my reception – pinks and purples, and our guests’ photos turned out very pink/purple, but our pro pics look amazing!

Is he older? I wonder if it is just a matter of him not adapting to new trends?

I’m going to say the actual problem is the photog not the lighting.

I’m a photog and love uplighting. it’s tricky yes, but an established pro should know how to work it.

Isn’t this why they have a really fancy flash?  I would keep looking for a different photographer.

No, I have never heard of that. I would be careful of photographers who love to use flash though, if not used properly it could wash out all the uplighting color.

Side note: we had purple up lighting the majority of our wedding and our photos came out fabulous. We had the lights change color throughout the night for different events and our photographer did not have a problem with any of it.
