My SO and I like to joke about the fact that we met off craigslist 🙂
Actually, I was looking for an apartment near my college campus, and he had an ad looking for a new roommate to split rent. His was the first ad I responded to, and I liked the location and price, and his dog, and moved in shortly after.
We became very good friends, hung out together all the time, then became friends with benefits (he had some potential relationship stuff going on, a girl he was interested in was moving here, but then she turned out to be a complete nutcase so their relationship never happened thank goodness… that was an interesting couple of weeks for sure)
Once that blew over, we were both still great friends, unattached, never got sick of each other even on those long spontaneous road trips, and so we kind of figured, what the heck! Well it’s been a year and we’re still living together and I love him more than ever, and now we’re talking about marriage!
I’d like to hear some of your stories, too!

We didn’t but our best man and his wife met in a roommate situation. They lived in a 3 bedroom apartment with another guy. They’ve been married for almost 10 years now!

We weren’t exactly roommates but lived right down the hall from each other freshmen year in college. We clicked instantly and within a few weeks of meeting each other, we began dating. Our junior year, we moved in together so technically we did become roommates. 10 years later and we’re finally tying the knot! 🙂

We were friends since childhood but did live together as flatmates before we got together. We were also fwb for around 7 years before we got together seriously

@hedgehogcatcher: I met my SO as a roommate! (We also joke that we met on Craigslist. SOOO creepy.) Our situation was a little different. I moved in with a female roommate who still had a room empty. She insisted on getting a guy. I was pretty against the whole random creeper off craigslist thing. Its one thing to move in with a girl you don’t know, it quite another to move in with a guy you don’t know. She was the lease holder and she insisted so I agreed, if I helped pick him out.
We interviewed a bunch of duds before my SO. Finally, the SO came in and we immediately hit it off. I practically begged the other roommate to chose him, instead of the other lame-os. We became really good friends. Eventually, he started to show interest and I tried to hold him off because I thought it was a terrible idea to date your roommate. Finally we got SUPER drunk and made out. (We didn’t technically sleep together but that is only because I had had surgery down below two weeks before.) I really didn’t want to wreck our friendship and I knew I couldn’t handle friends with benefits, so I decided we shouldn’t ever let it happen again. (At the time I thought he was a bit of a player, and knew he had just ended it with another girl who was a friend with benefits.)
That lasted about a week before we, not drunkenly, started making out again. Half way through the make out session I shut the whole thing down and told him I absolutely would not be his friend with benefits. I told him if we started dating we needed to start serious because of our living situation. Haha, so we became monogomous and committed before our first date. Throughout our entire relationship we’ve been living together.
Despite it being a really bad idea, we are still together 2.5 yrs later. Guess it worked out for us!

@lawyerchick13: It’s only a really bad idea if you end up breaking up 🙂
