Is there anyone here who’s fiance is a military veteran (whatever the branch may be) possibly a young one at that?
The guy I’m now engaged to is a guy I dated in high school for a while. His original plan for after high school was to go into the Air Force for a while and then NASA.
During the time after we had broken up roughly a month before my high school graduation in 2003 for reasons I’m not going to go into here (after which time we basically had nothing to do with each other), he continued on with what he had left of high school (he was two years behind me), then entered the Air Force during which time he pursued a degree in Aircraft Maintenance.
It wasn’t until July of this year when I was able to reconnect with him. I had looked him up on Facebook one day and sent him a friend request as well as what I considered to be a long overdue apology for some mistakes I had made in the relationship in high school. He answered back saying that there was no need to apologize, that he and I were both young at the time, that he probably made some mistakes of his own, etc. In the same message he mentioned that he had gone into the Air Force but that last year he was medically retired after being injured. He would’ve been 23 at the time of his retirement, and he recently turned 25. The official reason for the retirement was that he suffered heavy metal poisoning, but his left arm was also injured. Needless to say, the plans he had had to go into NASA have been scrapped. He is, however, planning on running for Congress next year.
He and I re-established our relationship in August and have been engaged since late October. We haven’t set a date though, but it’ll likley be a year or two before we marry depending on the situation.
So is there anyone else here who is engaged to someone who is NOT active in the military but was at sometime whether the retirement happened during or prior to your relationship/engagement?
