Its almost time for my yearly checkup and I have been on the pill forever now and it just gets extremely tiresome having to remember to take a pill everyday and Im trying to decide on a different form of birth control. I am thinking about doing the patch but not sure how effective it is, menstrual wise. Does it help with your periods just as much as the pill does?

That was my first birth control. It sucks honestly – the patch hurts to rip off, and it gets filthy and gross looking around the edges because lint sticks to it. My periods stayed where they were supposed to (off weeks). I’d recommend Nuva Ring instead though – I’ve used it for years now and it’s awesome. I skip periods with it no problem.

i used it, loved it except for the slight burn mark it would leave on my skin and as PP mentioned the gross sticky band aid feeling around the edges. i would go patch after patch so i wouldnt get a period, i didnt give myself an off week, but i have horrible periods. i switched from that to depo. but the patched worked well for me if you dont mind those irritants.

The patch was fine for me – you have to put it on a different spot every week because it does irritate your skin just a tiny bit, and it does get all linty as a PP mentioned.
However, I think remember reading that it has a higher chance of blood clots than the Pill? Yup: http://www.nydailynews.com/life-style/health/ortho-evra-birth-control-patch-higher-blood-clot-risks-remain-market-fda-article-1.990882
