I have, but only as a child in the late 90s in Alaska! I don’t remember my parents having any issues with them! There were two pools (one was salt water) all you can eat chocolate buffets/sculptures, ice sculptures, candy on your pillows, the works! Since growing older and going to a resort, I definitely prefer sticking in one place so you can fully explore, but a cruise lets you experience multiple ports, even if it’s for a short period of time.

I went on a Holland America Cruise to the Carribean with one of my girlfriends when I was single. We were the youngest people on the ship by far, it was predominantly senior citizens. I don’t know if this is typical of this line, or it was just our luck. I have been on 4 other cruises on different cruise lines and the clientele was much more mixed age-wise. As for the quality, the food and the room were good, no complaints.

I’ve been on several cruises with them, they are my Grandparents favorite line! lol  They are nice, but they definatley draw an older crowd.  So there is a little less of a night crowd, and a longer wait for the elevator/buffet.  As a plus there are fewer kids running around, and less of a pool crowd in comparison to my trips with other lines.  I would say that they are a little bit more higher end.  for example they still have tru formal nights, and I believe they still only have timed dining room seatings, as opposed to other ships that have seat as you come.  I think the shows are also triggered towards an older audiance, and you aren’t going to be finding ice skating rinks and rock climbing walls.  I have done two cruises to Europe, one of the mediterranean, and the other was England, Ireland, Scottland, both with Royal Caribbean, and they were awesome!

@MelissaSB:  I was going to say this.  I cruised with them about 3 years ago.  I loved it, but would have loved it more if it wasn’t such an older crowd.  It seemed to be mostly seniors, or families.  Our group of four girls were a bit of an odd group out.

We cruised Holland America to Alaska last September. The ship and the staff were great. The food on the buffet was adequate. Food in the dining room was excellent.

They do have a choice of two fixed seatings at dinner or you can just show up at any time and get a table. We chose the latter option as we didn’t want to have to eat dinner at a certain time every night and had no problems getting a table.
