Im going through the same thing but in a different way. Instead of having physical favors for the wedding guests I wanted to do a donation to cancer in lieu of a present. My grandma, my mothers mother, passed away the day before my 14th birthday due to cancer and I really wanted to do this as a rememberance for her but she is more interested in what the guests will think. She wants to make sure they get an actual gift. It’s driving me nuts but Im not paying for the favors, the maid of honor are. Its greek tradition for the “koumbari” aka maid of honor to do so. I had one maid of honor on my side who is my age and the other is around my mothers age. I know my mom and she probably squashed the whole idea when it was brought up by them and didnt even talk to me about it before they chose what favors to buy.

Just remember that these things are small things. After all this whole day is about YOU and YOUR GROOM, not the parents or the gifts or the materialistic things. I hope you find comfort in my story!

Tell your mother that since she’s essentially asking you to carry a stranger’s necklace down the aisle, that you would much prefer her to haul a sack of cans you took off of a truck down the aisle with her because the emotional significance of both is about equal….

If you’re that opposed I’d tell her you think it would mean more if SHE wore the necklace.

I did numerous things to keep the peace for my wedding. A lot of it was simply because I knew how happy it would make certain people, IE. my mom. It didn’t hurt me any to make other people happy but I was never asked to do anything I thought was flat out awful.
