I am recently engaged, and I am very seriously considering the whole elopement/destination wedding thing. My fiance and i both have HUGE closeknit families that expect an invitation, but if we invite 250+ people, itll be a big and boring wedding. we cant afford to decorate, get a band, get a good venue hall, buy decent food, etc. not for that many people! but we could afford a small and fun one. It would just let down a ton of people.

I’m really torn. Advice would be great!

My FH and I are eloping on top of a mountain! It feels nice to only have to plan the clothes we are going to wear and our honeymoon. One of our friends is going to take photos and another friend will officiate and nobody else will be with us that day. We are so very excited and not the least stressed out about the planning process. We will at most spent $1000 total. I highly recommend eloping.

I do lol. We paid for everything ourselves and I definitely wish we just did a small private ceremony with just our parents and bil. I’d so much rather have that cash in our savings. It was fun, we got great pictures but I just dont think the $ was worth it.

bushandapeck :  My advice – do whatever you feel like doing! This day is all about you and your SO.

chillbee29 :  The problem is that my mom has 4 young-ish kids, whom i love SO much, and i dont want to get married without my mom and sibilings there-but I know she couldnt afford to fly everyone out. She’d probably be the only one to come. and that doesnt feel right.

If I knew my mom and the kids would be there, i’d do it in a heartbeat. Wedding and honeymoon all in one!

Everyday! We aren’t married yet and every time our budget changes I stress and wish we just eloped. My fiance feels the same. I’m pretty sure if I knew what I know now we would skip the formal wedding and just elope. I’m hoping that I will be glad we did it once that day has finally come.

KKML125 :  I wish. Though, initially I always wanted a traditional wedding. Especially sicne my fiance and I have been together 11 years now, almost 12 by the time we get married, so I feel like I earned it! LOL though with all the stress and people being so entitled about the way they think things should go… eloping would have been so much easier!!!

chillbee29 :  Honestly! If only I hadnt paid so many deposits already!

Your answers are likely going to skew toward people who wish they had eloped because of the way the topic is worded.

Personally, I had a large wedding and would do it again. It was important to me to have all of our family/friends in one place to celebrate with us. I thought wedding planning was relatively easy and even enjoyable, and I didn’t have the issues pop up that I see a lot of bees post about. Just goes to show that everyone is different and has different priorities 🙂
