i’m at the opposite end of the state, but grew up closer to knoxville (in middle tennessee).  it’s a beautiful area, lots of restaurants/shops/entertainment as it is a thriving college town, but beautifully kept.  you would also be not far from chattanooga and gatlinburg/pigeon forge, both great areas (i got engaged in gatlinburg)

they are getting some rough snow right now, though.

i would imagine cost of living to be much lower than CA, although it is considered pretty high for Tennessee ( i live in memphis, which is on the cheaper end).

I’ve never really been to Knoxville… but we drive through it every year on our way to vacation – we stay about an hour or so south in the smokey mountains just off the TN/NC line. It’s such a beautiful area there – way different from california (or at least how i imagine CA). I can’t really speak for the city itself but it always looks so pretty when we drive through.

How long does he have to decide about the transfer? Maybe you could take a long-weekend trip to check it out.

http://www.areavibes.com/knoxville-tn/cost-of-living/ is a neat website to check places out and see how they rate compared to where you live now.

I’m a Knoxvillian 🙂 Ask me anything.

The cost of living is much lower here and housing prices are excellent. As with any city, there are good parts and bad, but it’s quickly growing and the further west you go, the newer everything is.

Also, prepare yourself to be surrounded by lots of orange! (University of Tennessee’s main color)

There’s a lot of ugly Orange..a lot.

Is there anyway to make a weekend trip? It’s exciting Yall will be moving. I’ve only been through Knoxville but I go to school at the University of Georgia and I imagine Knoxville is a lot like Athens. There will be a ton of places to rent since it is a college town, but you probably wouldn’t want to be around a bunch of students if you’re older. A blog I follow, livelovediy.com, lives in Knoxville and bought a house a couple of years ago. Maybe you can try to contact her and get her realtors info. Sorry I’m not much help lol. Its going to be a culture shock, but I’m sure it’ll be amazing!
