- Wedding: December 2012
My Fiance and I are both US citizens who will be having a civil ceremony in the UK. Everything’s set on the legal aspects of getting married in the UK, but the only problem I have is what to do after the wedding.
We live in California and I was told by my County Clerk’s office (the registry for civl marriages) that I am not required (nor am I able) to record our British marriage documents in the County where we live. He said “When you’re married, you’re married.” I understand that my British wedding will be valid and recognised in the US, but I feel like I shoud probably officially file somewhere…
Any brides (American or otherwise) out there get married in the UK then return/move to the US? If so, what next steps did you take to have your marriage recorded and “on file” in the US? Thanks!
