We flew on Spirit from NY to FL in May, because it was the free airfare we got in another package we had received.  And…I don’t know how great it was…I mean it was fine for free.  But…the seats were pretty tight, the staff was not the friendliest, and it generally wasn’t super awesome.  (I try to fly Jetblue when I can, which I really like).

I guess it can depend on how long your flight is…I think ours was 3 or 4 hours?  And I was okay for that time…but my fiance tends to be claustrophobic and was really uncomfortable both ways.

So, I’m not sure how helpful the response is…I would definitely consider the comfort/distance/time ratio, and decide if the savings really is worth not so much comfort.

I’ve flown them twice to Cancun with a stop in Ft Lauderdale.  Personally, you get what you pay for.  I’ve found that I’d rather just pay the extra money to fly a reputable airline.  I wasn’t a fan.

I grew up by AC and have flown Spirit many times out of Atlantic City Airport.  I think they are great mainly because of the price.  I don’t look at flying as a very convenient or comfortable experience no matter what airline it is, so for me at least it’s hard to compare comfort levels.  I never had a particularly negative experience with them though.

I travel a lot for work, and our corporate travel agent knows never to book anyone from my office on Spirit. We have all had horrible experiences with this airline. Cancelled flights for no reason, horrible customer service, insane luggage policies (like making you pay for your carry-ons).

If you have another option, I would go with that if for nothing else than your own sanity.

We’ve used them many times and have never had a problem. I love the fact we can fly out of AC and not be bothered with PHL. I have complaints about a few other airlines we’ll never use again, but Spirit isn’t one of them.

I’ve heard and read way too many negative things about them to even contemplate flying them if the objective is NOT to save $$. Hence, if money is the only factor, I’d fly them in a heartbeat, if not, you get what you pay for. I’m not talking from personal experience though, just stuff I’ve read and heard.

Make sure when comparing prices, that you also take into consideration the baggage fees. If you and your Fiance both take a carry-on and check a bag, it’s an extra $240 on Spirit.
