I have to say, I dont understand getting annoyed because people notice and/or compliment your ring. I love it when people compliment mine, its small (1/2 c with all the accent diamonds included) but perfect for my tiny hands and fingers and very sparkly. It baffles me that someone would be embarrassed that their large lovely ring is being admired and noticed, thats kind of the point of jewelry.

@Annabelle86: I completely agree. I’d be proud as hell!

I was at a bridal show and one of the cake bakers said ‘ohh look at that ring- most people have to wait 10 years to get a rock like that’… I just smiled and said thanks but the 3 girls around me gave me a dirty look…

My ring is only 1 ct =/

I don’t get many compliments or comments on my ring.  If I do get a comment, its usually, “oh.”

I only really get embarrassed when Future Mother-In-Law shows it off. I know it’s a beautiful ring and she’s super proud of her son for buying it for me, but it’s always a little awkward when she sticks my hand in someone’s face. I know it’s out of love so I try not to squirm too badly.

You can let her know that your relationship with your Fiance is “super sparkly” and that’s all that matters and maybe she should dig a little deeper ; )

Congrats

when my ring was being appraised, I wore a 2ct CZ as a placeholder. I took it off for a party at my friend’s house, I didn’t want them to think I had traded in my original e-ring for a bigger one. most of them don’t have much money, I didn’t want them to think I spend my money on huge diamonds (which is true, I don’t).

People made a big fuss over my ring at work when I got engaged, and it made another girl really mad to the point where she slammed an office door in my face, and still does it when she sees me. Sooooo b*tchy. I don’t remember others making a fuss about the other girls…so it caused some trouble. I didn’t even come in and announce that I was engaged…someone saw it on facebook and the news spread on its own.

My ring is bigger than average for my age, I guess, and I feel uncomfortable when others make a fuss about it in front of other people. I love it and I’m proud of it, but I don’t want to come across as bragging. I just say ‘thanks!’ and change the subject. I think in my case people knew my Fiance and I had some family issues when we first got together and the beginning of our relationship was very emotional and difficult…so I think they are just happy for us that we are engaged and that he bought me an amazing ring. Otherwise, I don’t think that they mean anything negative by it.

@His Lil SantosGirl: exactly. women are the most scrutinizing, and sometimes awful people. i would know, i’m one myself haha!

i have a friend that has a ring like yours (btw yours is beautiful), but much smaller. she carries it as if its the biggest ring in the world, and i admire that. she’s a very down to earth, sweet girl and she’s told me before “you know…i realize it’s not the biggest ring, but i’m marrying the man of my dreams. why does the size of my ring have to tell you that? the smile on my face does it for me!”

i know some will not agree with me, but the size of the ring shouldn’t matter. but sadly, it does in this kind of world. i myself have a fake CZ ring right now, due to an unexpected surgery we had to pay thousands for…but i don’t care :] i’m looking into upgrading to a black diamond ring soon.

I think some women are used to people trying to overcompensate for modest sized diamonds by putting them in huge chunky sized setting. I think your ring look elegant and beautiful and I think half a carat is a respectable size. It’s so rude people would equate your love and your FI’s love to money…Yell

@FutureBaker:  I’m really afraid of that sort of nonchalent reaction…
