Anyone get pregnant within 3 months of HSG?

An HSG is not a cure for infertility nor does it increase your chances of a successful BFP. It is simply a test to establish functionality of your fallopian tubes. In reality, those who see a pregnancy soon after an HSG likely were just on the longer side of average TTC times.

I had a completely normal, both tubes clear, HSG done after 10 months of TTC and did not get pregnant until an IUI cycle 8 months later. It ended in a MC and again, I did not get pregnant until 2 IVF cycles and 15 months after that miscarriage.

zoey0317 :  Understandable. I know you didn’t say it was a cure, however you did ask for stories of a successful pregnancy within a certain amount of time after an Hsg was performed, and if you didn’t receive a bfp was it due to an abnormal test result. I interpreted that as you questioning whether the test had any effect on fertility or if you could possibly expect a bfp soon after the test was done. Apologies, but there have been quite a few posts regarding the misunderstanding and misconception of this test and I felt like I should mention what I did.

I’m an example. πŸ™‚ I’m currently pregnant, and I conceived on the 2nd month after the procedure. Both of my tubes were open, but it still hurt like crazy so I do wonder if it pushed things out. However, I also was on other things to improve my fertility per my RE, so who knows what really helped. I DO think it helped to some degree though!

zoey0317 :  My OB told me our next step would be an HSG, and then Clomid if we wanted to go that route. She told us that many couples get pregnant after an HSG because it basically is clearing things out, especially if you had any minor blockages. I was actually getting ready to schedule mine, and was just waiting on AF to arrive, when I got my BFP. It ended at 6 weeks as an Ectopic and was treated with a Methotrexate injection instead of surgery thank goodness. I actually have a follow-up monday which will be 3 weeks since, and I”m going to talk with her about if she feels we should do an HSG to check things out – and hopefully make sure it’s all clear.

I had my HSG last month but I also got a MMR injection so I wasn’t able to try last month.  I’m currently on cycle day 4 and cannot wait to give it all I’ve got this month as my HSG was normal.  I know you never said it was a cure or anything but just wanted to add my fertillity clinic said it can help to clear the way.  Not that it’ll clear out real blockages but they said it can clear our mucus or what not.

Good luck!!  My HSG was the most painful one minute of my life haha.  He said nothing was blocked but I had a few mega intense cramps with mine.

zoey0317 :  Thanks! πŸ™‚ I agree with the PP – My RE also told me that it increases fertility afterwards for a few months. I used Femara, baby aspirin and progesterone the next month after the procedure and got pregnant. I’m taking the baby aspirin because I’ve had a couple of chemicals and borderline blood clotting issue. I think my doctor just puts everyone on progesterone, but I kind of wondered if mine was a bit low.

Good luck!! πŸ˜€

zoey0317 :  I was not expecting it to hurt like that.  I was all excited because there was a monitor where I could watch the dye fill up my uterus.  Then the technician started rubbing my leg telling me I would be alright–then I got such bad cramps it took my breath away.  As I was trying to get my bearings it was over.  When I looked at the screen I just saw the dye sploches and didn’t really know what I was looking at.  I missed the whole thing!!

I had an hsg when I started ttc again after an ectopic pregnancy. It came back clear, and I did conceive my 10 week old that month. It’s not a cure for anything, but my Dr also told me I had a higher chance of conceiving after since it opens your tubes and can clear away any gunk. GL πŸ™‚
