I don’t understand what the difference is between the ipad mini and an iphone. Except an iphone actually fits in your pocket.

@asscherlover:  I wondered the same thing. I think Apple stopped making the iTouch (iPhone without being a phone), so I guess this is just their replacement.

For people asking… it’s just a smaller tablet. The original iPad models are almost 10″ screens. The iPad mini comes in at 7″, making it similar to the Kindle Fire, Samsung Galaxy, Google’s Nexus and other tablets like that. It’s lighter and more portable.

Basically, they’re covering a hole in their market so they can compete for people who want a tablet but find the iPad too bulky.

Personally I’d looooove to have one.

I have an Iphone, a Vizio tablet, and a laptop. I just don’t think it’s necessary. I agree with the PP’s that why get a mini-tablet…when a tablet is a mini-laptop essentially…when there is the iPhone?

My hands are too small to carry all of this technology!

I have an iPad (2nd gen) and I would never call it too bulky or heavy or big. I wouldn’t want it any smaller. To me it seems really pointless but I guess I just love my iPad as is.

@mirabell35:  I read online that you can still make phone calls through it?

I can kind of see the point in owning an Ipad and an iphone and a laptop and a desktop. If you really have that much money. (My Fiance has all 4 and uses all 4. I don’t have an iphone or an ipad. My phone doesn’t even have internet.)I just don’t know why you would add and ipad mini to your collection.

I can also see adding an ipad mini to your collection of gadets if you don’t have an ipad or an iphone. I just feel like most people who would buy an ipad mini own an iphone or an ipad (probably both, and probably have purchased the ipad II to replace their).

Someday when I get a real job I *might* get an iphone lol. I just don’t have the money for it now and don’t see it as necessary.

I just feel like it’s another way for Apple to fleece people out of their money. It’s trendy, so people will buy it. I think it’s some shady BS that the New iPad came out 8 months ago and now there are TWO new iPads.

When the iPad first came out I was really skeptical of it, but after hearing from a lot of people who have one, I see that it can be very convenient. I’m still not completely on the bandwagon yet, but I’m considering buying an Ultrabook (lightweight laptop that converts to touch screen tablet) in the next few months.

@zippylef:  As a business and a company, there was a market left open that their products would fit well in. How is that fleecing people for money? I’m really not looking to start a fight, I’m just curious how you came to that opinion.

Technology changes very quickly; it makes sense for products to come out so close to each other. You can actually see a big difference in the display between the iPad2 and the new iPad.

Of course, there are always going to be people out who think that anything Apple makes is pure crap, so it’s whatever.

Personally I find them to be much like any other company, except that in my experience Apple customer support has been miles better than others.

@mirabell35:  True! Physically it is almost 8 inches. Yet for some reason a lot of places list it as 7. *shrug*

I figured they would try to compete in the Kindle Fire HD market with the iPad Mini – sizewise it competes, but it’s way more expensive. If its price was in the range of the Kindle Fire, I would be all over it and get the iPad Mini. But it’s too pricey. Alas, it is Apple.

And I cannot afford the data plans for an iPhone. Almost everywhere I go has wifi – school, home, restaurants, coffee shops, etc., so I really only need something with wifi. I’ll be getting an iPod Touch for Christmas. It suits my needs. A bit of a pain to carry around a phone and iPod, but I’m not willing to shell out the bucks that Apple demands.
