I recently met with a wedding dress designer from the Phillipines about possibly getting my dress costum made by her. We had a great meeting and she was able to sketch the gown I had been envisioning in my head, but could not find at a bridal salon. She can make my dream dress in my budget, but this will all have to be done long distance. We would have to do video chats and I will need to find a seamstress to help with alterations here in NY where I live. I’m ready to commit, but my mother is still a little worried I may not like the outcome somehow. The designer is planning on coming back to NY in April or September so I would actually be able to have a final fitting with her.
Has anyone done anything like this before? I need some reassurance!

My dress will be made in Thailand, but I am working with a designer and seamstres here in NYC on the design of it. I’m not worried at all – they send them out for quicker and cheaper work, and then tweak it here. If there are any problems, they can fix it here once the dress comes in.

I’m having the same issues kind of. My Mil offered to make the dress and my Fiance is really really into the idea but she lives across the country. Flights to go see her arous round $600 each way. That blowslute budget out of the water! But my Fiance insists… I know it would mean a lot to him because she made his sisters dresses too.

I’ve considered having a dress made in Thailand. My Dad lives there and I have a tailor I trust so it’s slightly different.

@kariface: I’m in NYC also. May I ask who you are using for your alterations?
