My venue is 1.5 hrs away from my hometown. Is in a different town altogether. So the family that was an 1 hr away now will be 2.5 hrs away. I’m pretty sure I’m raising eyebrows with this one. But we really liked an oceanfront venue.
Anyone else with the same issue?

@loveknows: Yep. My venue is about 1.5 hours away from where I live, so it’ll be about 2 hours away for some people. I love that place and I am thinking of it as a mini-destination wedding 🙂

Mine is only an hour away and people keep asking me “why all the way out there?”
I couldn’t pass up an indoor Carousel.

My wedding is 23 hours from my hometown, and 5-6 hours from the closest thing FH has to a hometown (Army brat). Because we both have family all over the country (and I’m possibly having family in from Norway), people have to travel regardless.
We wanted this location (we’ve been going here for years and the organizers love us) and having it in Texas means that we can have a paster friend officiate instead of someone from my home church I barely know. It took some convincing with my parents but now everyone is on board.

We’re getting married 3 hours away from our venue because I used to work there and it’s FREE! 🙂 No greater incentive than that!
My family lives 1000 miles away, but most of our friends are in Texas, so we wanted to get married somewhere that would be easiest for our guests travel-wise. We will be having an AHR up north hosted by my parents, as well. It’s tough planning things from afar, but I think it’s worth it to do pick the place that makes the most sense to you.

Our wedding was 2 hours from my hometown. Honestly, I never thought a thing about it because it was perfect for us. People can raise eyebrows all they want. It’s not like they had to buy a plane ticket.

Our venue is 90 minutes from our current home, a six hour plane flight (and an hour-plus drive on either end) from where we grew up. Since we grew up about 40 minutes from each other in the NY area, our families were really hoping we’d get married there, but we just didn’t like the options. After looking at some northern New England venues, we decided the easiest way to plan it and the best venue options were out in California where we live now. Either way, tons of people were going to have to travel.

Our venue is almost 4 hours from where we live, and maybe 1.5 hours from where the majority of our guests live. We originally wanted a beach wedding (we wanted a smaller wedding so we didn’t think it’d be an issue), but I found a venue in the mountains that was also overlooking a lake, and I couldn’t pass it up! Everyone asks what the significance of our venue is, and I just say “Because I like it!”

Our venue is also about an hour away in a quaint little weekend vacation town. We wanted to do it on a boat on the lake and this lake is calm, serene, and beautiful! Of course everyone always asks why I want it all the way out there. I have relatives coming from Out of Town that will also have to drive just a little farther.

Im looking at venues 45 min to an hour away from my hometown and my mother is freaking out about how inconvienient it will be for my guest. She ignores that fact that most of my family travels to this city frequently to shop, go to the casinos, concerts etc so it wont be a huge deal to got here for my wedding. Plus my Fiance family and our frinds are travelling 500+ miles to be there.
Long story short…im going to have the same issue…

My venue is about 25 minutes from my hometown, but it’s 5 and a half hours from where I live now.

My church is downtown which is 15 minutes from my hometown and then our reception is 30 minutes from downtown so 45 minutes from my hometown. The reception location is where my Fiance is from..we couldn’t find a venue close enough within our budget or wishes from my disabled mother who didn’t want to be outside in the humidty.

Our ceremony and reception will be held about 1 hour from where Fiance, I and most of his family live. His sister is coming all the way from Denmark with her husband and child so it’s about 38 hours away for them!

Our ceremony and reception are going to be 3.5-4 hours away for my family and 2.5-3 for his in the town where we went to college. It is where we met and we wanted to be in a place with meaning for us.
