A wedding in Hawaii sounds AMAZING! I would think it would be fun to change into a more light-weight, beachy dress for the reception. I had a cousin who was married in California during the summer with an outdoor reception and she changed into a short, yet still bridal-looking dress for the reception.

What island are you getting married on? I know that there are sometimes timeshare condos that you can find for reasonable prices (at least less than hotels!). Maybe you could try searching that?

Good luck!

We are planning to elope there, but still in the early stages of planning.  I think a fun beachy dress for the reception is a good idea.  Have you seen the Alfred Angelo little white dresses?  As for cheap house rentals, I have seen lots of pricey ones… What island are you getting married on?

a linen beach dress would be simple and beautiful. I feel like beach weddings, especially in hawaii, you let the location and flowers speak for itself.  But don’t go so simple that you just look like you’re wearing a plain white dress, try a one shoulder with a large flower or something that pops.

Which island are you going to?  If you happen to be in Oahu, you have to go surfing! I mean you’re in Hawaii after all!!  I work with Lexus Magazine and think you would be interested in this great article about hot & cold vacations that links to the Hawaiian Fire Surf School, where firefighters teach you (so you know you’re in safe hands).

@Jjaho01: HI!  We’re planning a Destination Wedding wedding on the Big Island.  I’m shopping resorts, but am in good discussions with Kona Village Resort.

I’m not wearing a traditional dress at this point but will probably get a long, white maxi dress and veil.  However, I’d probably do the same if I were wearing a wedding dress – change into a maxi sun dress!  SO comfortable and cute.  Nordstrom usually has great ones in their spring line.

If you’re looking for an uber-comfy white dress check out Fighting Eel. They’re a local designer and all their dresses are made of modal. It a jersey fabric, but it’s sooooo soft and comfy. They actually have a “bridal” line. http://www.fightingeel.com/bridal/index.html

@Jjaho01: Not knowing how to swim and wanting to learn are definitely at odds with each other.  Maybe you if you layered heavily on the life jackets or did a crash course in doggy paddling?  It seems like such a shame to be in Hawaii and not surf!

Either way I hope you have a beautiful wedding and time!

what you can do for your reception is have matching hawaiian print out-fits for you and your husband.  Hilo Hatti, Sears – Ala Moana and Waikiki (various stores) have many prints to choose from.

Oahu is a beautiful location to get married.  And having your reception at a luau is a grreat idea.
