I have my heart set on an island wedding, but I’m concnerned about the logistics of it all. Has anyone attended a wedding at either of the clubhouses before? How did it all work out? FYI – I’m looking at the Algonquin Island Clubhouse…
What about caterers? What about getting people back after hours by ferry? There are B&Bs on the island, but not so many to accomodate everyone…
Anyway, some thoughts on what you’ve seen or maybe are planning would be much appreciated!

We are planning our wedding at the AIA Clubhouse for next June. I have found it pretty easy-going thus far. The AIA rental fee is totally affordable. We love to view and quaintness of the clubhouse. The surrounding parkladn is great for photos and being on the island just feels more special/unique than a hall or over-priced downtown venue!
I don’t know how your planning is coming along but here is what we struggled with/found solutions for:
1- Catering prices were getting ridiculous – especially with delivery fees. Audrey Demur actualy told me she couldn’t work with our budget! I was getting worried we would be coking our own meal but then I got a hold of the Island Cafe. Zorah is incredible. The food is delicious and he offered insight in to the island and the venue that we found invaluable. He has a wide variety of menus and is flexible/willing to experiment. Pricing is comprable to othr caterers we looked at MINUS the exorbiant delivery fees. Plus – we feel super confident knowing he is an island ‘insider’. They have an amazing inhouse baker who we decided to use for our wedding cakes – BEST butter tarts I’ve ever tasted.
2- We were worried about elderly guests walking to the venue from the ferry. I spoke to Lin from teh AIA and she put me in touch with the Island Tram. We will have a little train tram delivering our guests from the ferry terminal to the AIA for $50/hour.
3- We were worreid about the ferry and logistics. We solved this by opting to pre-purchase our ferry tickets (you save 10%) and having someone at the ferry docks dispersing them the day of. This way our guests can skip the line and enjoy the ride without waiting in line or worrying about catching a time specific chartered boat further down the harbourfront.
We are staying on the island from the Thursday to Sunday. We get the AIA on Friday evening to decorate etc. so we will have All day Thursday to transport out decoration and extras across via water taxi. My make-up artist and hair stylist are coming across for the big day so I don’t have to worry about going back & forth over the water on our big day.
I am sure issues will arise BUT it is mind over matter. For every stress there is a reasonable answer/solution. We wanted to have our weddingon the island but we did not want to sacrifice our budget or mental health. With every little obstacle we take a breath and tackle…we’ve got the big stuff covered now so less worries! I hope you stayed with your island vision – let me know if you have any tips 🙂
